The Laser Cutting Machine Operator’s primary function is in operating 2D Laser Cutting machines to cut customized 2D blanks and components, while executing production standards and quality specifications. The Laser Cutting Machine Operator is responsible for ensuring the machine runs efficiently and properly by conducting first and last off quality inspections. The Laser Cutting Machine Operator performs basic set up and adjustments under the guidance of the Laser Cutting Supervisor. Maintaining required documentation is vital to producing a quality part and ensuring that WIP material is transferred to the next Work Center, or Production stage smoothly. The Laser Machine Operator achieves this by adhering to the Work Order / Traveller, drawings/programs and documenting production, material and quality data through various Production Reports. This position is multifaceted in nature, offering an opportunity for professional development and extensive training in all aspects of fabrication, as well as training in various Laser operations.
- Operate Messer 2D Laser Cutting System.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs) ensuring process and quality standards are met.
- Conduct first off / last off inspections in accordance with customer specified standards.
- Perform typical laser cutting operations.
- Select proper cutting programs and proper fixtures.
- Establish proper stop location and adjust laser beam focal point.
- Make proper set-ups for cutting operations.
- Accurately read and record measurement data using measuring tape, vernier calipers, and micrometers where required.
- Record necessary information for material tracking, quality verification, and production reporting, including Production Report Logs, Production Lot Tracking, and ICS Sheets.
- Follow all steps outlined on machine specific Work Instructions (WIs).
- Communicates material deficiencies, deviations and machine errors to direct Supervisor immediately,
- Use various pneumatic or electrical tools such as grinders, power files, etc. in a safe and proper manner.
- Perform general maintenance and mechanical changes of equipment with assistance under direct Supervision.
- Other duties and responsibilities to be assigned as required.
- Follow all applicable Company Health & Safety Policy, Laser Safety Procedures and safe work practices, including wearing appropriate PPE at all times.
- Ensure a clean workstation and maintain housekeeping standards.
- Min 2-3 yearsexperience as a Laser Cutting Operator required.
- Must be able to read and communicate in English, through both verbal and written means.
- Prior operation of overhead cranes required.
- Working understanding of GD&T Drawings / Blueprints
- Working understanding of using inspection and measurement tools such as micrometers, vernier calipers and height gauges.
- Quality oriented, with a strong attention to accuracy required.
- Material knowledge (ie material thickness / type)
- Team oriented, with the ability to work autonomously.
- Fast Paced manufacturing shop floor environment involves frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
- Process is repetitive in nature and involves postures including forward reaching, lifting and tight gripping.
- Frequently lifts, carries, or balances up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent use of eye, hand, and finger coordination.
