Global Resource Design (GRD) currently has an opportunity for a Junior Piping Designer to join our growing team in Calgary. GRD has fast paced, challenging and ongoing career opportunities for the right candidates.
- Assist in preparing 2D and 3D piping layouts, isometrics, and general arrangement drawings using AutoCAD, CADWorx, or SmartPlant software.
- Develop and update piping models based on process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
- Generate bills of materials (BOM) and ensure all components are accurately represented in the model.
- Incorporate design changes and ensure drawing revisions are clearly documented and traceable.
- Support senior piping designers and engineers in developing routing concepts and design layouts.
- Review vendor drawings and integrate vendor-supplied equipment models into the piping layout.
- Perform basic clash detection checks and resolve interferences within the 3D model.
- Ensure compliance with project design standards, client requirements, and applicable codes (ASME B31.3, B31.8, etc.).
- Collaborate with process, mechanical, civil/structural, and electrical teams to coordinate model interfaces.
- Participate in model reviews and incorporate feedback from multidisciplinary teams.
- Maintain clear communication with project leads and provide updates on design progress and issues.
- Maintain organized files and ensure drawing control procedures are followed.
- Check drawings for accuracy, completeness, and conformance to standards before internal review.
- Support the preparation of design packages for issue (IFR, IFC, As-Built).
- Diploma or Associate Degree in Mechanical, Drafting, or Piping Design Technology (or equivalent experience).
- 0–3 years of experience in piping design or drafting within oil & gas, industrial, or energy sectors.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, CADWorx, or equivalent 3D modeling software.
- Familiarity with P&IDs, piping specifications, and standard industry codes.
- Basic understanding of materials, pipe fittings, and valve types.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Eagerness to learn and adapt to new tools, standards, and project requirements.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.
