In this position, you'll be responsible for installing and maintaining electric underground distribution circuits requiring the skill of lead cable splicing.
- Performs overhead line work and work associated with transmission and distribution substations as required.
- Receive work direction and review from Substation Foreman, Line Supervisors, Substation and Underground Supervisor.
- Install underground electric distribution systems of the lead, rubber and concentric neutral cable, including installation of duct systems which primarily feed electric service to large metropolitan areas.
- Builds undergound vaults and stations which house the electric apparatus for the distribution systems.
- Splices and maintains lead as well as other cables. Instruct and train new personnel in the art of splicing.
- Performs necessary maintenance on vaults and stations which includes heaters, venting, transfer switches, sump pumps, transformers, and safety equipment.
- Troubleshoot underground electrical faults.
- Reads maps, blueprints, and specifications in the building, repairing and troubleshooting of underground distribution systems.
- Directs the work of helpers who may assist the Cable Splicer in performing the work assigned.
- Performs overhead line and substation work as required.
- Operate wench truck and pulling trailers as well as other equipment in the performance of duties as needed.
Other similar duties may be assigned. When management determines that it is efficient to do so, employees in this classification may be assigned duties of less complexity.
- Must be a journeyman lineman.
- Must successfully complete the Lead Cable Splicer Training Program and become certified in eighteen (18) months.
- CDL is required.
After successfully completing the certified Lead Cable Splicer Training program, employee will be advanced to a Grade 33C and classified as a Journeyman Certified Lead Cable Splicer.
