Job Summary
The Shipping Clerk is responsible for efficiently loading and unloading finished goods onto flatbeds, vans, or delivery trucks, utilizing overhead cranes or forklifts. This role ensures that shipments are processed accurately, timely, and safely according to daily shipping schedules.
· Loading and Unloading: Safely and efficiently loads trailers, straight trucks, and other delivery vehicles using overhead cranes, forklifts, and some manual blocking is required at times. .
· Order Organization: Reads and interprets orders to organize shipments in preparation for transportation.
· Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate protective gear to maintain a safe work environment. Ensure equipment is properly calibrated and functions according to safety standards.
· Scanning and Documentation: Scans orders to generate packing slips and other necessary documentation, ensuring all shipments are properly documented.
· Shipment Preparation: Prepares paperwork and ensures accuracy for outbound shipments, by completing digital documentation.
· Inventory Movement: Transports orders from manufacturing areas to the shipping warehouse as needed. Logging movements via handheld computers.
· Schedule Adherence: Follows the daily shipping schedule, prioritizing and completing orders in a timely manner.
· Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
· Experience: 1-3 years of experience in Shipping and Receiving, ideally in a manufacturing environment (preferably steel/metal manufacturing).
· Equipment Operation: Experience operating forklifts and overhead cranes.
· Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
· Safety Conscious: Knowledge of workplace safety and adherence to safety protocols in handling equipment and materials.
· Ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs.) and perform physical tasks as needed.
· Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
· Ability to stand for long periods, operate heavy machinery, and perform manual tasks in a factory setting.
· Properly wear PPE and handle machinery safely.
