Job Opportunity: Become a Fire Hydrant and Water Valve Inspector Apprentice with the opportunity to become a fully trained fire hydrant field inspector.
We work with fire departments, cities, private entities, and other government entities. Our inspectors perform fire hydrant testing, flushing projects, and valve surveys. Perform inspections, testing, and exercising of fire hydrants and water valves. Duties include inspecting and pressure testing fire hydrants, exercising water valves, recording pressure data and relaying information. Opportunities for growth include project management, advanced application of water distribution system knowledge, and advanced training.
Under general supervision, perform skilled work inspecting, testing, and surveying fire hydrants, surveying, locating, and exercising water valves in accordance with established procedures. Duties involve the ability and desire to perform manual labor. Recommend necessary action for fire hydrants and valves when found or reported deficient. Hydrant testing requires the physical operation of hydrants. Valve surveying involves physically turning valves, digging, and working outside for extended periods.

- Minimum education: Associates Degree
- The ability to speak and write fluently in English. Includes receiving instructions, assignments, and/or directions. Requires the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control, and confidence., the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently, both orally, and in writing.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, percentages)
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record and maintain an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to read and understand a map.
- Physically able to exercise fire hydrant and valves and lift objects up to 50 lbs.
- Must be physically able to operate motor vehicles.
- Able to speak fluently in English.
