What role will you play in our team
We have Environmental Student positions available at multiple site locations. At each location the Environmental Student is responsible for supporting the Environment and Regulatory teams ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and approvals, and supporting implementation of the company’s environmental strategy.
Positions are available at multiple locations including Calgary, Cold Lake and our Kearl Oils Sands Mine. Note that our Kearl site is located located north of Fort McMurray and will be on rotation with either a 14 days on and 14 days off schedule or a 4 days on 3 days off schedule.
- Providing environmental/engineering advice on environmental aspects to support the day-to-day operations in one or more of the following areas:
- Air management including air emissions, inventories and modelling
- Water management including chemical and physical hydrology and hydrogeology
- Waste management
- Ecology including wildlife, biodiversity and vegetation management
- Spill prevention and response
- Environmental performance reporting with accuracy and timeliness as required by regulations and license approvals
- Development and implementation of environmental standards and managing systems
- Working with geospatial data
- Supporting QA/QC of site regulatory documentation
- Managing environmental protection and regulatory compliance efforts at the site
- Supporting routine environmental field sampling and inspections
- Providing ongoing technical support to the operating unit on environmental issues
- Leading and completing specific environmental management project(s) or improvement opportunities which could involve developing new management systems, guidelines, or tools
- Act as the environment and regulatory advisor for new projects providing environmental/engineering and regulatory advice, submitting applications, and developing mitigation plans
- Completion of at least 2nd year or higher in Engineering with an Environmental / Civil major or concentration, Environmental Sciences or Environmental Management degree
- Currently enrolled in a university program and returning to full-time studies after the work term
- Most recent unofficial transcript(s) must be submitted with your application
- Demonstrated leadership and strong academic skills
- A valid driver's license and a safe driving record are required for this site based positions
- Previous industry or environmental experience is considered beneficial, but not essential
- Ability to adapt to challenging projects, working in a high pace and often changing work environment
- Proficiency with computer-based data management programs, spreadsheet and presentation applications, visio
- Self-motivation with strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Critical thinking skills and ability to problem solve

Eligibility to work in Canada
