It’s another fast-moving morning on the manufacturing floor. You scan build progress on a new laminating line, review a SolidWorks assembly with your team, and jump into a cross-functional huddle to align on FAT timing. By afternoon, you’re troubleshooting a servo-driven web-handling issue, finalizing a vendor PO for actuators, and coaching an engineer through a design-for-safety update to meet CE and OSHA standards. You close the day planning next week’s prototype tests and resource loading for two simultaneous machine startups.
- Mechanical design ownership—from parts and sub-assemblies to complete machines—for flexible packaging, converting, laminating, and printing-related equipment
- Automation integration across mechatronics, pneumatics, hydraulics, and motion control
- Project governance: schedules, budgets, vendor coordination, and resource planning
- Performance validation including prototyping, testing, FAT, and startup support
- Cross-functional collaboration with process engineering, operations, quality, and maintenance- 8+ years in machinery engineering within flexible packaging, converting, laminating, printing, or closely related environments
- Proficiency in SolidWorks; mechanical design of parts, components, and full assemblies
- Hands-on background with heat sealing, laminating, converting, or similar industrial systems
- Understanding of supported and unsupported substrates and how materials behave in web processes
- Mechatronics depth including pneumatics, hydraulics, actuators, and automated sub-assemblies
- Strong knowledge of PLCs, servos, VFDs, and vector drives used in web-handling systems
- Ability to manage timelines, budgets, vendor communications, and resource allocation
- Advanced troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills
- Experience partnering with process engineering, operations, quality, and maintenance teams
- Proven work with prototyping, performance testing, FAT, and machine startup procedures
- Familiarity with CE, ISO, OSHA, and related safety and compliance standards
- Exposure to flexographic, gravure, or digital printing systems
- Previous leadership or mentorship of engineers/technical staff
- Track record of elevating reliability, throughput, automation efficiency, or material-handling performance
- Background in advanced web-handling principles or adjacent printing processes
