We are looking for high achieving, analytical, creative, entrepreneurial, and passionate students to join our intern program. Plains’ Intern Program offers students the opportunity to learn and develop the skills they need to pursue long, successful careers in the energy industry.

Plains’ Intern Program is an opportunity to get hands on experience and education which is aligned with each student’s degree, in the oil and gas midstream sector. Plains’ intern opportunities have been specifically designed to provide students the opportunity to apply their academic studies and gain valuable experience through meaningful and challenging work. Plains offers one of the industry’s best formal training programs in which high achieving participants may become eligible to receive an offer to join Plains upon graduation.
We have multiple 3-month Engineering Intern opportunities available across a variety of business groups. These roles are based in our downtown Houston office and will commence on May 18, 2026. Successful candidates will be exposed to multiple engineering disciplines and participate in projects that impact business performance and support professional development.
- Assist and support engineering teams in various ad-hoc and recurring projects involving data gathering, analysis, and presentation related to infrastructure and operations;
- Contribute to the evaluation and development of engineering solutions that support asset performance, safety, and regulatory compliance;
- Create and update technical reports and documentation using Microsoft tools, Oracle, and SharePoint;
- Support process improvement initiatives by applying engineering principles and leveraging available technologies;
- Develop an understanding of engineering workflows and the role of the assigned business group within the organization;
- Complete assigned tasks and deliverables as outlined at the beginning of the work term;
- Present findings and outcomes from an assigned project at the end of the internship; and
- Attend internal and external meetings, where applicable.
- Must be pursuing an undergraduate (bachelor’s) degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Industrial, or Petroleum Engineering;
- Previous internship or work experience is considered an asset;
- Ideal candidates are analytical, creative, collaborative, and entrepreneurial;
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Proven flexibility and ability to adapt to changing business conditions;
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while demonstrating strong analytical and organizational skills;
- Preference will be given to students returning to university to complete their degree following the internship;
- Must be able and willing to relocate to Houston for the duration of the internship;
- Must be able to commit to a 3-month work term starting May 18, 2026;
- Must comply with the company’s Drug & Alcohol Policy, including pre-employment testing; and
- Must provide satisfactory references and complete a Criminal Background Check.
