The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Leader works to create and enforce a culture of safety within the organization. The EHS Leader works with the Corporate Safety and Environmental Leader to implement programs, policies, and assessments to ensure Pioneer Metal Finishing is in compliance with all federal, state and local environmental, health, and safety regulations, and to ensure a safe environment for all employees, visitors, and contractors. Supervises, instructs, trains, and coaches managerial and hourly personnel on environmental and safety aspects of the job, including the proper techniques, work instructions, production methods, and plant operation. Oversees the divisional pollution control team.
- In conjunction with the Corporate Safety and Environmental Leader, maintains and enforces safety & environmental policies and procedures based on federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Responsible for environmental compliance for all federal, state, & local regulations related to their division.
- Keeps abreast of federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations. Recommends modifications to policies and procedures as required when laws and regulations are changed or developed.
- In conjunction with the Corporate Safety and Environmental Leader, develops and delivers training programs on EH&S policies, procedures, and regulations to front line employees & supervisors.
- Implements effective emergency response action programs.
- Works with the Corporate Safety and Environmental Leader to implement programs to monitor physical, biological and chemical hazards; develops action plans to alleviate potential risks.
- Ensures necessary records and reports are maintained and prepared according to established federal, state, & local government guidelines as well as Pioneer best practice guidelines.
- Accurately documents and records confidential information; maintains employee and company confidentiality.
- Serves as a point of contact with all federal, state, and local regulatory bodies as directed by the Corporate Safety and Environmental Leader.
- Partners with Human Resources on Workers’ Compensation claims investigations, modified duties, and return-to-work programs.
- Performs audits to ensure compliance within EH&S programs. Determines and implements corrective actions which may include follow-up testing and training for current and new employees.
- Coordinates monthly safety & environmental meetings with division employees & leadership.
- Partners with all levels of the organization to promote health, safety, and environmental topics. Drives activities needed to achieve results; creates a safety-first culture with employees.
- Maintains SDS sheets for the facility per the GHS standards.
- Helps to ensure target safety KPI’s are met.
- Responsible for achieving maximum performance of the pollution control team while maintaining high quality standards.
- Works in conjunction Human Resources on all personnel issues for employees on pollution control team including training, performance reviews and formal performance coaching.
- Sharp parts, sharp tooling, heavy carts, occasional hot and cold temperature and humidity levels, heat from ovens, moderate noise levels, limited hand and air tool use, compressed air (must use hearing protection).
- Must be able to lift 30-50 lbs. unassisted.
- Potential splash exposure near process lines.
- Various chemicals used in process.
- Bachelor’s degree in the Safety or Environmental field or equivalent industrial experience preferred.
- 3 Years of experience performing similar duties in a manufacturing environment.
- 3 years industrial wastewater experience or equivalent education preferred.
- Sufficient knowledge of health and safety regulations and practices to effectively create and enforce a culture of safety within the organization.
- Demonstrated organizational, recordkeeping and documentation skills; including attention to detail.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; ability able to communicate and provide verbal feedback in a professional manner.
- Self-motivated, positive attitude, and the ability to build collaborative relationships; demonstrates enthusiasm for the role.
- Proficient computer skills, including skills with Microsoft Office and ERP software.
- Demonstrated decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
