Position Overview:
This position provides leadership for excellence in Quality and Compliance for all US based Nelson operations. This role is responsible for quality across our 8 manufacturing locations in the US. This position will determine quality priorities for the US Business Group using customer and regulatory requirements, as well as defining, tracking, and reporting high level performance KPIs and goals.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties:
- Strategic leadership – Define and execute the company's quality vision and objectives in alignment with overall business goals.
- Quality Management Systems (QMS) – Develop, implement, and maintain the QMS, ensuring compliance with automotive industry standards such as IATF 16949 and ISO 9001.
- Product and Process Quality – Oversee quality assurance procedures from product design and development (APQP, PPAP, FMEA) through testing and production
- Support various locations during the deployment of key quality initiatives, providing coaching and guidance to team members
- Drives continuous improvement toward defect-free processes ensuring customer satisfaction and the achievement of business results
- Responsible for the assessment and improvement of the people capabilities, processes, and tools that are critical to the product development process
- Leads and coordinates the use of a common continuous improvement project selection and priority setting process
- Develops, leads, tracks, and measures continuous improvement progress and its impact on business results
- Leads functional teams and cross-business teams to drive improvements impacting key measures of the business
- Develops direction on quality assessments and audits focused on processes to customer and business success
- Leads the assessment of quality department team members' capabilities and skills
- Plans development opportunities to meet the needs of both individuals and the business
- Organizes post-implementation exercises to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement
- Lead executive customer management forums and activities by championing key projects and effectively managing Quality KPIs on customer scorecards
- Perform other duties and projects as required
- Ability to travel (minimum 30%) and be present at the manufacturing sites to lead/support activities
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business, or related relevant field desired; will consider relevant experience in lieu of degree
- 10+ years of quality/manufacturing experience- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt - Desired
- Quality Management Systems (QMS) – IATF 169949, ISO 9001, VDA standards, and customer-specific requirements (CSRs)
- Quality Methodologies – Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Statistical Process Control (SPC).
- ASQ certification a plus
- Lean Six Sigma Blackbelt
- Budget management including significant capital projects
- Drive for results and project completion
- Ability to form relationships and manage work through others
- Excellent project management skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Proficient communication skills, both written and oral
