The Day Care Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years. This role supports children’s physical, social, emotional, and cognitive growth through structured curriculum, play-based activities, and individualized care. The Day Care Teacher works closely with co-teachers, assistants, and parents to ensure each child’s needs are met in a positive and engaging atmosphere.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate lessons and activities that support developmental milestones and school readiness
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized classroom that fosters learning and exploration
- Provide individualized attention and care, including feeding, diapering, toileting, and rest routines for infants and toddlers
- Observe, assess, and document children’s progress and share updates with parents and supervisors
- Establish positive and professional relationships with families, encouraging open communication and family involvement
- Support children in developing social skills, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation
- Collaborate with teaching team to ensure consistent routines, classroom management, and curriculum delivery
- Adhere to all licensing regulations, health and safety protocols, and organizational policies
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and ongoing training to enhance teaching practices
- Respond appropriately to emergencies, accidents, or behavioral challenges with care and professionalism
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field strongly preferred
- State-required certifications or credentials for child care teachers (varies by state)
- Prior experience working with children in a licensed child care, preschool, or educational setting
- Knowledge of child development principles, classroom management, and age-appropriate curriculum
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and actively engage with children on the floor, playground, and classroom environment
- CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Patience, creativity, and enthusiasm for working with young children
- Team-oriented with a positive, collaborative attitude
