The Distribution Center Manager oversees daily warehouse operations, managing staff, inventory, equipment, and ensuring efficient shipping and receiving processes to meet customer and business needs. Key responsibilities include optimizing workflows, ensuring safety and compliance, tracking inventory, managing transportation, and using warehouse management systems (WMS) and data analysis to improve performance. This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills, often with a bachelor's degree in a related field and prior experience.
- Operations Management: Supervise all daily activities in a distribution center, from receiving and storage to order fulfillment and shipping.
- Staff Management: Hire, train, and manage a warehouse team, setting performance goals and addressing operational issues.
- Inventory Control: Maintain accurate inventory levels, reconcile manifests, and implement procedures to ensure product integrity and security.
- Logistics and Transportation: Coordinate shipping, receiving, and transportation operations, including optimizing routes and working with delivery drivers.
- Safety and Compliance: Establish and enforce safety procedures to prevent workplace injuries and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Process Improvement: Analyze data to forecast demand, identify inefficiencies, and implement systems and strategies to improve productivity and cost-effectiveness.
- Equipment and Facility Management: Oversee equipment utilization, space allocation, and the maintenance of warehouse equipment.
- Reporting and Analysis: Prepare reports on logistics, supply chain performance, and inventory metrics to provide insights into future planning.
Minimum Education & Work Experience Required:
- 1 – 2 years of experience in warehouse or distribution center preferred.
- Leadership & Communication: Strong ability to lead, motivate, and communicate effectively with staff and other departments.
- Problem-Solving: Capacity to identify and resolve operational issues quickly and effectively.
- Analytical Skills: Proficiency in analyzing data to make informed decisions about inventory and operations.
- Organizational Skills: Excellent ability to organize workflows, manage multiple tasks, and maintain attention to detail.
- Technical Proficiency: Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS), enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and logistics software.
- Industry Knowledge: A thorough understanding of supply chain processes, inventory management, and logistics.
- Moderate responsibility for the safety of others.
- The job is performed in a manufacturing environment where dust and noise are prevalent.
