Overview

The City of Cheboygan, Michigan is currently accepting applications for the position of Code Enforcement Official (CEO).

The CEO is responsible for interpreting and enforcing a variety of City codes, including the Zoning Ordinance, Property Maintenance Code, Short-Term Rental regulations, Blight Ordinance, and other codes as adopted by City Council. This position ensures compliance with zoning, development, and nuisance-related regulations throughout the City.

This is a full-time administrative position with a starting wage range of $18.00 to $22.50 per hour, based on qualifications and experience. The position includes a generous benefits package.

The CEO interacts frequently with City staff, the general public, local businesses, the county building code department, and other agencies. The role requires strong communication skills, initiative, and independent judgment to effectively interpret and enforce City ordinances.

Minimum Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Three (3) or more years of experience in code enforcement, ordinance compliance, or a related field, including issuing citations and working with the public.

- Post-secondary coursework in a related field is preferred.

- Working knowledge of construction practices, property boundaries, surveys, and blueprints.

- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

- Must be willing to attend training and obtain certifications or licenses as required by the City Manager.
