Basic Purpose / Accountabilities:

- Provide as-needed field environmental support to North Slope operations by backfilling for site-specific Field Environmental Coordinators (FECs).

- Leads by example in support of COPA’s Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Management System and promotes effective environmental stewardship across North Slope operations.

- The role ensures continuity of environmental compliance during FEC absences for programs including: spill prevention and response, waste, air, water, wildlife, land.

Primary Functions/Responsibilities

Serve as an on-site environmental technical resource supporting:

- Air quality requirements and operating permits

- Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) programs

- Alaska Oil Discharge Prevention Contingency Plans (ODPCP)

- Water use, water quality, and APDES-related obligations

- Spill reporting, investigation, and prevention

- Waste management, hazardous waste handling, and waste minimization

- Land, wildlife, and other multimedia environmental requirements

- Provide day-to-day environmental guidance to operations, maintenance, projects, drilling, and contractor personnel

As needed:

- Conduct field audits, site inspections, and procedural verifications to validate compliance

- Prepare or support written compliance reports and documentation

- Represent COPA during regulatory agency inspections as needed

Key Interfaces:

- North Slope operations leadership, supervisors, and workforce

- COPA HSE field and Anchorage-based support teams

- Operations (facility and drill site operators)

- Local, State, and Federal regulatory agencies

Preferred Education & Experience:

- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in engineering, safety, industrial hygiene or environmental sciences.

- Five or more years of environmental permitting and/or compliance experience with emphasis on upstream exploration, production, industrial, or abandonment operations.

- Legally authorized to work in the United States on a regular full-time basis without restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Alaska environmental compliance experience (air, water, spills, waste, land)

- Method 9 (VEE) and Redbook Instructor Certified

- North Slope field experience

- National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100 & 200

- Working knowledge of Alaska and federal environmental regulations and permitting frameworks

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to maintain positive relations with HSE and External Affairs team members, external stakeholders, internal business partners, and natural resource management / regulatory agencies.

- Organizational abilities, especially the ability to work on many short- and long-term issues or projects concurrently

- Practical self-starter who can work effectively with minimal supervision

Ability to:

- Ability to work in a remote work location on 2 weeks on and 2-week off work schedule

- Comply with the North Slope drug-free and safe workplace (pass a drug and background check)
