We are seeking a skilled and reliable Handyman Superintendent to join our team. This live-in role focuses on the maintenance, repair, and general upkeep of an apartment building. The successful candidate will ensure the property remains clean, functional, and safe for residents, working closely with the Property Manager to resolve maintenance issues and provide excellent tenant service.
- Perform general handyman duties including carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical work
- Repair fixtures and appliances (e.g., shelves, cabinets, lighting, faucets, etc.)
- Troubleshoot and fix minor electrical and plumbing issues
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the building's interior and exterior
- Prepare units for turnover (repairs, cleaning, touch-ups)
- Regularly organize and prepare garbage/recycling for disposal
- Respond promptly to tenant requests and concerns
- Conduct move-in, move-out, and annual unit inspections with the Property Manager
- Serve notices to tenants as directed
- Maintain tenant confidentiality and professionalism at all times
- Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours emergency maintenance
- Perform routine fire safety checks and keep all required logs
- Provide access to contractors and supervise when needed
- Monitor security systems and building activity
- Ensure tenant safety and building security
- Maintain maintenance records for units and common areas
- Monitor and purchase cleaning and maintenance supplies
- Report persistent maintenance issues to the Property Manager
- Use basic computer applications for reporting and communication
- Minimum 3 years of relevant handyman/maintenance experience
- Strong knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable using hand and power tools
- Physically fit and capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and using an 8' step ladder
- Clean criminal background check
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office preferred)
- Familiarity with the Residential Tenancies Act, Ontario Building Code, and Fire Code is an asset
- Must be willing to live on-site in Cambridge, ON
- Ability to commute or relocate prior to start date is preferred
