PURPOSE:
The Senior Capital Projects Manager plays a pivotal role in leading large-scale investment and infrastructure projects from concept through completion at the facility. This position blends strategic planning, financial oversight, and project execution to ensure delivery of capital initiatives that align with organizational goals. The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and cross-functional coordination to manage timelines, budgets, and stakeholder expectations. This position may include the coordination and oversight of several project managers or leads on larger projects.
KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and direct engineering, including others by collaborating, setting direction and expectations, coordinating with procurement and construction to meet project milestones and objectives.
- Support the project change management process to ensure project scope of work, schedule and budgets are clearly defined and understood.
- Establish project procedures consistent with company procedures and PMG/ FEL processes, for engineering work, project controls, schedules, and budgets.
- Serve as engineering representative with operations, maintenance, constructors, subcontractors, and vendors at kick-off meetings, job walks, project reviews, and other project stakeholder engagements.
- Identify and secure necessary approvals for all changes in engineering scope, budget and/or schedule.
- Maintain ongoing communication with plant management, project engineers and leads as appropriate.
- Manage relationships with consultants, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure all work products are consistent with industry standards and in accordance with good engineering practice and applicable codes, and in compliance with all pertinent legal codes and requirements.
- Provide ongoing training and mentoring to mid-level and senior engineers and/or project engineers to promote employee development.
- Oversee planning, design, permitting, construction, and close-out phases of capital projects.
- Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and performance metrics.
- Facilitate project meetings and provide regular updates to senior leadership and stakeholders.
- Conduct post-project evaluations to capture lessons learned and improve future project delivery.
- Support capital planning efforts and contribute to long-term infrastructure strategy.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering in any discipline from a four-year college or university.
- Advanced degrees or certifications a plus.
- At least 7+ years’ related experience and/or training, specifically in managing capital projects in oil, gas, and chemical industry.- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, budgeting, and procurement processes.
- Competent in the use of computer software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint and Outlook. PrimaveraP6 scheduling a plus.
- Working knowledge and understanding of project controls terminology and project scheduling processes.

- Based out of Great Falls, MT site. While this is an office-based position, the successful candidate must be able to work in an operating plant for interfacing with operations. Maintenance and construction contractors.
- This position may involve traveling and interfacing with engineering contractors and vendors at home offices and facilities and may involve assignments for extended periods of time at those locations. Must be able to navigate construction environments and wear appropriate PPE when necessary.
