Responsible for providing technical support in radiological planning and implementing the station ALARA program. Works independently and with minimal supervision to perform research, investigations, analyses, in support of the radiological dose budgeting process. The position supports the station work planning process to perform dose budgeting, dose tracking, and data reviews. Planning minor maintenance, corrective, recurring task, and surveillance work orders, to include the identification and coordination of work order related activities, supporting the department through technical and administrative assignments, and ensuring that the department implements and complies with applicable Administrative and Regulatory requirements. This position has the capabilities of applying leadership and strategic focus to all facets of the ALARA program including performing and presenting business cases for program / site needed in CRE reduction.
- Preparing and implementing ALARA planning, estimating, work group involvement and procedure implementation in accordance with site procedure guidance for exposure reduction. Create Radiation Work Permits, ALARA Plans, job reviews and Shielding packages.
- Performance of assessments, corrective actions, benchmarking, and job evaluations with regards to ALARA processes and practices.
- Implement industry best practices. Perform independent, specific rolls such as outage planning, modification team leads, on-line planning, or other duties integral to the Radiation Protection ALARA program including emergence response organization.
- Mentor and aid in the development of other RP personnel, site personnel, and contractors to ensure that industry knowledge and Radiation Protection standards are transferred and embraced.
- Incorporate the site and industry fundamentals into all work evolutions and actively coach and teach station personnel to maintain continual improvement.
- Will have budget accountability for projects, PRC/PHC presentations.
- Will have accountability to communicate with customers in determining best plans for exposure reduction.
- Must independently assess and make field technical decisions with regards to job performance, assessments of conditions, and communication with all levels of the organization.
- Will utilize knowledge to strategically assess corrective actions to improve exposure reduction, contamination reduction and work efficiency
- Must be able to perform public speaking, training classes, ALARA job briefs, interface with regulators and engage the RP technicians. Ability to coach and perform critical observations.
- HS Diploma or GED.
- Bachelor’s degree in health physics is preferred.
- Four years’ experience in Radiation Protection at a nuclear generating facility.
- One year of related technical training.
- The candidate must be proficient in basic computer skills, including word processing type programs and various data base programs.
- The candidate must have a basic working knowledge of Radiation Protection, and hands-on experience in nuclear power plants is desired.
- Demonstrated communications ability both written and oral.
- Similar Work Control Planning experience is desired but not required.
- In depth knowledge of plant systems and operations.
- Successfully completed NRRPT or the CHP certifications.
- Ability to read and understand drawings.
- Ability to communicate both written and verbally.
- Must be available to work shift work (days and/or nights) as required to support the needs of the business.
- Some travel may be required for benchmarking or other similar assignments.
Must establish and maintain a permanent residence within a 45-minute safe drive to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant.
