Summary: Sets up and operates conventional and special purpose machines. Operates computerized numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Reads blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, sample part, or part to be machined to determine tool offsets, dimensions and tolerances of finished work-piece, tool paths, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
Operates computer numerical control machines after the computer program has been developed, written, and entered by the Master Machinist.
Measures and marks dimensions, tool offsets and reference points on material or work-piece as guides for subsequent machining.
Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, drill presses, grinders, and shapers.
Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut.
Climbs onto slanted, irregular, metal surface of assembly and positions portable boring jig on assemblies with overhead crane and cuts bore holes within reference dimensions and specified tolerances.
Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
Confers with Supervisor, Engineering, Production Control, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
Complies with all safety guidelines by correcting hazards, informing Supervisor, or recommending guidance to co-worker(s) to avoid injury or damage to employees or equipment.
Complies with quality standards set by Customer and Company by following specifications and instructions at all times.
High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) and two (2) years experience in all types of machining, or acceptable equivalent experience and/or training.
