Bidell Gas Compression Inc., a part of the Total Energy Services Inc., group of companies is a leading supplier of reciprocating and rotary screw natural gas compressors from 20 to 8,000 brake horsepower. In addition to the sales and leasing of skid and trailer mounted compressors, Bidell has parts and service locations across Western Canada, Northwest USA, and Northeast USA.
As a Socket Welder, you will be responsible for performing high-quality socket welds on piping systems and components used in the assembly of natural gas compression units. This role requires precision, attention to detail, and strict adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, and welding procedures to determine welding requirements.
- Perform socket welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy piping systems in accordance with ASME standards.
- Set up and operate welding equipment including TIG and Stick (SMAW/GTAW) processes.
- Fit and align pipe, flanges, and fittings accurately to prepare for welding.
- Inspect completed welds to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas and adhere to company safety policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with fabrication and assembly teams to meet production timelines
- Participate in safety meetings, quality control initiatives, and continuous improvement programs
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training or welding certification preferred.
- Minimum of 1 years of experience as a pipe or socket welder, preferably in a fabrication or manufacturing environment.
- Proficient in TIG and Stick welding methods; ability to pass company-administered weld tests.
- Familiarity with ASME codes and standards related to piping and pressure systems.
- The ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical drawings.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in confined spaces or elevated positions as needed.
- Experience working with natural gas or oilfield equipment.
- Knowledge of welding procedures for various materials. (e.g., stainless steel, chrome-moly)
- Current AWS or ASME welding certifications.
