The Maintenance Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing materials, supplies, parts, and equipment required to support maintenance and plant operations at Jupiter Coil Coating. This role ensures timely procurement, cost control, accurate inventory management, and strong supplier relationships to minimize downtime and support safe, efficient operations.
- Monitor and create purchase requisitions daily through the CMMS system and convert approved requisitions into purchase orders for appropriate vendors.
- Manage the purchase of maintenance materials, supplies, spare parts, and equipment, including researching suppliers, negotiating pricing, and placing orders.
- Utilize the CMMS system for purchase tracking, inventory control, and documentation accuracy.
- Develop, maintain, and manage strong relationships with vendors to ensure quality products, competitive pricing, and timely delivery.
- Track open purchase orders and follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time fulfillment.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure critical maintenance items are adequately stocked to prevent operational disruptions, including management of non-stock and specialty items.
- Analyze purchasing and inventory data to identify cost-saving opportunities and implement strategies to reduce expenses while maintaining quality and reliability standards.
- Prepare and process purchase orders, invoices, and contracts in compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records, supplier agreements, and documentation for audits and reporting.
- Collaborate closely with maintenance, engineering, production, and other departments to forecast material needs and support operational planning.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to procurement, inventory management, and supplier performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Work is primarily performed in an office setting within a manufacturing facility.
- Frequent interaction with maintenance shops, warehouses, and production areas.
- Exposure to industrial environments, including noise, dust, temperature variations, and moving equipment, when on the plant floor.
- Standard business hours with occasional overtime as required to support plant operations.
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2–4 years of purchasing or buying experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment preferred.
- Experience with CMMS systems and inventory management required.
- Knowledge of maintenance parts, MRO supplies, and industrial equipment preferred.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and data entry.
- Effective communication and negotiation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively across departments.
- Demonstrated sense of urgency and accountability.
- High ethical standards and commitment to company policies and procedures.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Occasional lifting of materials or packages up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to navigate stairs, ladders, and uneven surfaces when accessing maintenance or storage areas.
- Adequate vision, hearing, and manual dexterity to perform computer work and review documentation.
