Parkersburg Utility Board is accepting applications for an Equipment Operator I.
- Responsible for the routine and emergency cleaning and televising of the sanitary sewer system, as assigned by the Wastewater Collection Foreman.
- Responsible for the safe operation, care and routine maintenance of major pieces of equipment, such as a combination jet/vac truck or sewer television inspection truck.
- Responsible to insure that all tasks are performed in a safe and effective manner.
- Responsible for proper traffic safety while working in the travelled way to minimize the potential for accidents.
- Responsible to insure that all work performed is properly recorded and provided to the Sewer Collection Foreman.
- Utilizes independent judgement and initiative in carrying out sewer line cleaning and camera inspection assignments.
- Required to perform, as may be necessary, work described at a lower grade which the employee is capable of performing.
- Thorough knowledge of methods, materials and techniques used in mechanically cleaning and camera inspection of sewer collection systems.
- Good knowledge of Parkersburg’s sanitary sewer system.
- Good knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with fellow employees and the general public.
- Ability to deal courteously with the public.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to work problems and assignments.
Any combination of training, experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities stated above, and the ability to perform the duties of the position would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
- Five years’ experience in in the operation of equipment and completion of a standard trade school course, preferably completion of a standard high school course, supplemented by trade school course.
- Possession of a valid West Virginia Class A commercial driver’s license, with tanker and trailer endorsements, or state of residence if other than West Virginia
- Routine shift will be from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, Monday thru Friday, but shall be required to work overtime when needed.
- Required to be on a rotational callout to cover after hours sewer backup calls.
- The work required for this position shall be conducted both indoors and outdoors regardless of weather conditions.
