Summary: To provide a safe and healthy work environment for all employees and ensure compliance with all health, safety and environmental regulations.
- Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Occupational Health & safety
- 4-7 years of experience in environmental, health and safety compliance in a manufacturing environment- preferred
- Thorough knowledge of 29 CFR 1910 General Industry Standards in the US.
- Working knowledge of EPA and DNR rules, regulations and reporting requirements.
- Working knowledge of Wisconsin Workers’ Compensation laws
- An understanding of the function and application of hazard analysis tools and techniques
- Requires superior interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with employees, staff, management and organized labor groups, etc. Observes and communicates with all supervisors and employees on all shifts (flexible work schedule is required).
- Excellent presentation and negotiating skills are required.
- Must possess superior organizational skills and be able to prioritize and work simultaneously on several projects.
- Ability to operate within a team atmosphere.
- The ability to shift priorities frequently and effectively perform under pressure.
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License.
- Strong basic mathematics and computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Bi-lingual in Spanish is preferred.
Nature & Scope-Principal Areas of Responsibilities: The list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.
- Update and maintain safety policies and programs to meet applicable requirements.
- Maintain company safety manual.
- Manage company safety programs including but not limited to Lockout/Tag out, Confined Space, Hazard Communications, Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, Electrical Safety, Fire Prevention and Emergency Response.
- Stay current on OSHA and state safety regulations and EPA and DNR environmental regulations.
- Review emergency procedures and ensure all locations are updated on 1st Aid, CPR and emergency equipment and training as needed.
- Conduct fire and emergency evacuation drills
- Ensure fire extinguisher inspections are up to date.
- Maintain First Aid, Trauma and Blood Bourne Pathogens kits
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of safety supplies and PPE. Work with suppliers and order supplies when needed.
- Develop and sustain a First Responder program
- Manage Sharps & Bio-hazard program
- Maintain SDS database.
- Review new SDS’ for health, safety, environmental and PPE requirements.
- Coordinate and /or conduct industrial hygiene testing.
- Perform respirator fit testing.
- Schedule and Track employee health testing (Audiometric, X-ray, Pulmonary Function Testing, Respirator Fit Testing, Medical evaluations)
- Determine safety training needs.
- Create, update and maintain safety training materials.
- Conduct safety training and orientation for existing employees and new hires
- Chair Safety Committee meetings, prepare minutes and assignments.
- Identify safety and ergonomic improvement opportunities.
- Maintain Employee exposure and health records.
- Maintain OSHA 300 logs and other required reports and posts as needed.
- Coordinate creation and maintenance of Job Safety Analysis and Job PPE requirements.
- Accident Investigation and Analysis: Investigates accidents to establish facts related to their causation and obtain information useful in preventing recurrences of similar accidents.
- Review accident investigation reports prepared by supervisors and managers.
- Analyze accident investigation reports to identify loss trends.
- Conduct safety inspections to identify workplace safety hazards and behavior issues.
- Recommend corrective actions to eliminate hazards.
- Ensure that the Truck Driver’s medical certification is up to date.
- Help create a culture of safety throughout the company.
- Assist HR with Workers’ Compensation claims administration and case follow-up.
- Assist HR with Return-To-Work and Light-Duty program
- Schedule and track all required air, water and discharge testing and communicate results to Management.
- Coordinate and assist with DNR/EPA environmental recordkeeping and reporting such as Tier II, SARA 313, emissions reports and inventories.
