Job Purpose and Position Overview: Snow & Company is seeking a talented and skilled Steel Fabricator and Welder Lead to join our team! The Fabricator/Welder Lead position is an hourly, overtime non-exempt position that will oversee and work alongside Fabricators and Welders as they weld, cut, configure, install, fit, and braze metal pieces and products by using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment. This position requires preexisting training and aptitude for welding and a history of supervision.

We’re currently involved in some interesting, high-impact projects, including the construction of a dry dock, two cutting-edge electric tugboats, and an 8-year contract to build advanced workboats for the US Navy. - Oversee and coordinate shopwork of employees.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and layout plans.
- Fit and tack weld steel and aluminum parts for hulls, bulkheads, decks, and other marine structures.
- Proficiently perform Flux-core welding based on job requirements.
- Ensure structural integrity of welds to precise dimensions.
- Set up and operate fabrication machines such as saws, shears, brakes, grinders, etc.
- Measure, cut, and grind materials to precise dimensions using shipyard tools and equipment.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in clean, orderly condition.
- Collaborate with engineers, other trades and team members on design modifications and troubleshooting.
- Follow all shipyard safety regulations and wear appropriate PPE including respirators, fall protection, and fire-resistant clothing.
- Work in confined spaces, at heights, and in various weather conditions as necessary.
- Document work performed and complete required job paperwork.
- Availability to work overtime when necessary.
- This position is 90% dual shield/FCAW and we are currently only seeking candidates with a strong skill set of dual shield/FCAW experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience supervising/leading a team.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical drawings and blueprints.
- Strong understanding of metal types, welding techniques, and fabrication tools.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) and stand for long periods.
- Welding certification (e.g., AWS, ASME, WABO) is a plus.
The work environment is a dynamic, fast-paced shipyard with moderate to loud noise levels due to ongoing production activities. Job duties are performed in production areas and onboard vessels and require:
- The ability to walk to and from job sites, climb inclined stairways, and use vertical ladders
- Frequent bending, squatting, crawling, twisting, standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands/fingers for various tasks
- Occasional reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling
- Frequent lifting of up to 20 lbs, with occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
- The ability to work in extreme temperatures and conditions, including areas with limited ventilation
- The ability to enter and work in confined spaces, such as manholes
- The ability to work at heights
- Frequent use of a respirator
- Wearing required safety gear, including a hard hat, gloves, safety glasses, and protective clothing
- Regular exposure to noise from machinery and equipment
All new hires must pass a weld test and are subject to pre-employment drug screenings, background checks, and E-Verify in accordance with federal law. Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States and be at least 18 years of age.
