The Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition and Energy Management System (SCADA/EMS) manages and controls the electrical transmission grid in Vermont. The EMS Engineer will plan, develop, implement and maintain these systems, which include real-time electrical power system models and advanced applications (Power Flow, State Estimator, and Real-Time Contingency Analysis). You will assist control center operations by utilizing technologies and strategies to improve overall system reliability.
You will learn how to trouble-shoot real-time issues including SCADA, FEP, ICCP, RTU’s, Displays, data archiving, forecasts, EMS Network Model, and Calculations (core). In time, you will contribute to the improvement of procedures and templates and become familiar with the sources of Real-Time Data, the protocols used, and the data-communication transport architecture (core).
How You Will Make An Impact•Maintain reliable and efficient operations of VELCO’s SCADA/EMS by AspenTech.
•Implement, configure, maintain, and expand SCADA/EMS databases, displays, calculations, and applications using Excel and AspenTech software. Solve problems affecting the system and user operations.
•Work with VELCO and external staff including vendors, electric distribution companies, neighboring transmission owners/operators, and ISO-NE to maintain and troubleshoot SCADA/EMS, remote terminal units, Inter Control Center Protocol (ICCP) data links and equipment.
•Develop and maintain C calculations, Batch scripts, Powershell scripts, Excel macros, etc. as needed to provide desired situational awareness or workflow improvements.
•Assist in the development and maintenance of the SCADA historian and other special applications. Develop reports and queries of historical operations data.
•Maintain awareness and develop all work products in adherence with internal work processes and procedures, and in compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards.
Who You Are
To thrive in this role, you should have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Engineering Technology. A Master’s Degree in Engineering or a specialized industry credential such as a Certificate in Power Systems Management is desirable.
Knowledge & Skills
SCADA/EMS experience is not required, but will be considered.
•Proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
•Proficiency with EMS tools to aid in power flow analysis and development, and troubleshooting skills in real-time data acquisition.
•Network modeling/security analysis ability, as well as complex computer and/or electronic equipment analysis skills are appreciated, as are proficient programming skills (C++, Batch, Powershell, Visual Basic, etc.).
•AutoCAD and AVEVA (PI) Historian knowledge is a plus.
•The ideal individual possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as critical thinking skills.
•Knowledge of the bulk electric system is desirable.
Compensation Range
$67,828.80 - $144,435.20
This compensation range represents the minimum and maximum pay for this position. Individual offers will be based on various factors including, but not limited to, qualifications, education, skills, competencies, and experience. Please note that most offers for new employees fall under the midpoint of the range, allowing room for continued salary growth. Base pay is just one component of our total compensation package, which may also include comprehensive benefits, generous paid time off and incentive compensation (bonus) potential.
