As a Data/PI Systems Engineer, you’ll coordinate with internal or external stakeholders the collection, compilation, normalization, and standard analysis of data assets across diverse projects and data platforms.
This role will provide administration and support for VELCO’s time series data historian, Aveva PI and associated data analytics platforms.
How you will make an impact
The Data/PI Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in maintaining the Aveva PI historian system and related applications used by multiple internal departments and external customers. Using your analytical skills, you will be responsible for developing time-saving analytics and business cases in collaboration with stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Architect and Implement Data Solutions: Participate with the design and implementation of advanced data management solutions, ensuring alignment with the organization’s strategic goals.
- Data Integration Expertise: Support complex ETL migrations and integrations, ensuring seamless integration of internal and external data sources.
- Platform Strategy: Define and execute strategies for deploying and managing data platforms, including evaluating and integrating new technologies.
- Pipeline and API Development: Build and maintain robust, scalable data pipelines and API integrations to support enterprise-wide analytics and data accessibility.
- Advanced Data Modeling: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and improve sophisticated data models for business intelligence and operational needs.
- Data Governance: Assist with developing frameworks and processes for monitoring data quality, ensuring compliance with data governance policies, and resolving data-related issues.
- Vendor and Tool Assessment: Support evaluations of vendor tools for data lineage, integration, and analytics capabilities, providing recommendations to stakeholders.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Partner with engineering and business units to design and implement the long-term data platform architecture.
- Innovation and Thought Leadership: Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies to drive continuous improvement in data engineering practices.
Who you are

- Data Engineer 1: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related discipline. Equivalent work experience is also considered.
- Data Engineer 2: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related discipline. Equivalent work experience is also considered. 4 years of related experience required.
- Data Engineer 3: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related discipline. Equivalent work experience is also considered. 7 years of related experience required.
- In Depth knowledge of Aveva PI historian and related software
- Certification or training for two of following: SEEQ, Power BI, MATLAB, FME, Python
- SQL Enterprise database management using SQL Server Management Studio
- Data management experience including data migrations, integration, modeling, and administration
- IOT devices and the communications protocols required to integrate their data
- Developing data governance standards and practices
- Knowledge of critical infrastructure (NERC CIP)
- In-Depth understanding of Supervisory Control and Data Acquistion Systems (SCADA)
- Vendor selection and contractor management
- Project management experience including the design of scope, schedule, and budget
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills and ability to present complex technical information to committees, management, external regulators, and industry associations
- Ability to integrate business process and technology solutions.

Compensation Range
$67,828.80 - $81,394.56 - $94,960.32/salary
This compensation range represents the minimum, midpoint and maximum pay for this position. Individual offers will be based on various factors including, but not limited to, qualifications, education, skills, competencies, and experience. Please note that most offers for new employees fall under the midpoint of the range, allowing room for continued salary growth. Base pay is just one component of our total compensation package, which may also include comprehensive benefits, generous paid time off and incentive compensation (bonus) potential.
