Location: Hamilton, Bermuda Department: Supervision (FinTech)
An experienced FinTech Specialist is required to join the Supervision (FinTech) Department in Bermuda. The role involves oversight of the FinTech and InsurTech sectors, focusing on digital assets, emerging technologies, and financial innovation that is reshaping insurance and financial services.
- Evaluate InsurTech applications and digital innovations in underwriting, claims, distribution, and capital management (AI, blockchain, DLT).
- Conduct on-site prudential reviews of regulated entities for compliance with legislation and codes of practice.
- Review licensing applications and prudential filings, assess risk and financial soundness, and provide recommendations to senior management.
- Lead thematic reviews, innovation deep dives, and supervise sandbox and innovation hub applications.
- Research and monitor emerging trends in DLT, digital assets, and new financial products.
- Develop regulatory codes and guidance to address new risks and industry practices.
- Analyse distributed ledger transaction data to detect risks such as market manipulation or money laundering.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to conduct predictive risk analysis.
- Advise on regulatory developments in areas such as parametric insurance, embedded insurance, and AI-driven models.
- Support special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned.
- Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Law, Technology, or related field (professional designation an asset).
- Minimum 7 years’ relevant experience in financial services or a regulatory body, preferably with exposure to insurance, InsurTech, or digital financial supervision.
- At least 1 year of direct experience with digital assets and distributed ledger technology, including credit and liquidity risk management.
- Strong knowledge of international financial services regulations.
- Expertise in insurance business models, regulatory capital approaches, and risk-based supervision.
- Familiarity with InsurTech developments such as usage-based insurance, embedded insurance, automated claims handling, and blockchain underwriting.
- Knowledge of Bermuda’s regulatory framework, including:
- Insurance Act
- Digital Asset Business Act (DABA)
- Prudential Rules, Codes of Conduct, and BSCR models
- Excellent writing, analysis, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, while maintaining collaboration and diplomacy.
- Experience supporting innovation initiatives through regulatory sandboxes, hubs, or forums.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Solid understanding of financial innovation and risk assessment
- Effective communicator with strong stakeholder engagement skills
- Balance of innovation enablement and regulatory oversight
