We have an exciting opportunity for a
Manager, Research and Statistics
that manages the collection, processing, analysis, and graphic presentation of statistical data on public power utilities. The Manager serves as APPA's lead on surveys and statistics and as the main point of contact to members on questions related to statistics and surveys. This person presents survey and statistical reports to relevant stakeholders and assists in research and analysis of complex issues affecting the electric utility industry through data analysis and research support.
This is a hybrid position which requires the incumbent to reside in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and come into the office a minimum of two to three days each week (with Tuesdays being a mandatory day).•Collects, analyzes, and manages data from select industry databases. Combines and manipulates data from these databases to develop statistical resources and annually published reports.
•Leads reoccurring members surveys and corresponding marketing and publication development of summary analyses for dissemination to the membership.
•Approves the final drafts of all APPA survey forms, and assists, as needed, in designing surveys, analyzing data, and summarizing the results.
•Collaborates with Great Blue Research on an as needed basis for select internal and external surveys. Supervises contractor work and provides advisory input.
•Manages survey management software account and assists in contract renewal for APPA.
•Develops and oversees the integration between survey management software and APPA’s member database.
•Manages and approves survey schedule for the Association.
•Strategizes new surveys, statistical, and research opportunities for APPA in line with the association’s business plan and member feedback.
•Coordinates with the database team to provide key member statistics, including data used to calculate dues, as well as other information disseminated to members in APPA’s Statistical Directory.
•Provides members and staff with statistics and information on the electric utility industry and public power’s position in the industry to support APPA’s policy positions.
•Assists in research and analysis to develop reports, case studies, databases, and other member resources.
•Answers requests for statistical and other information from APPA staff, members, and the public.
•Cultivates relationships with members, as well as external stakeholders. Works closely with state associations to inform them of survey timelines and to gather member input into survey forms.
•Assists in writing comments on data collection to government agencies, including the Energy Information Administration, Small Business Administration, and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, and monitors these agencies’ data-collection programs.
•Carries out special projects as assigned by Senior Vice President, Grid Security, Technical, and Operations, and Director, Energy Efficiency Developments and Statistics.
•Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
•Degree from a 4-year college or university preferably with coursework in statistics or economics.
•Five years or more of relevant job experience in data and research analysis.
•Proficient with the Hitachi Velocity Suite database; other database management software, preferably Access; and spreadsheet software (Excel).
•Ability to develop full and accurate databases based on the data collected.
•Knowledge of standard sources of statistical data on the electric utility industry.
•Knowledge of survey software, design, and sampling methodologies.
•Ability to present timely ideas clearly, concisely, and accurately, both orally and in writing; effectively communicates research implications and conclusions and establishes strong working relationships with APPA members.
•Demonstrate strong organizational, managerial, communication, collaboration, problem solving, and analytical skills.
•Intricate knowledge of utility business models, and the public power business model in particular
•Travels out of town up to 5% of the year to support APPA’s conferences, events, and meetings.
•Experience in marketing, preferred.
