Key Project Requirements
- Active AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required
- Experience supporting mechanical construction quality on large industrial or power generation projects
- Strong knowledge of welding, piping, structural steel, and mechanical installation practices
- Experience performing field inspections, reviewing weld documentation, and supporting turnover to commissioning/operations
Job Summary
NAES is seeking a Mechanical Quality Inspector with an active CWI certification to support QA/QC field oversight activities on a large-scale power generation project in Delta, Utah. This role is responsible for verifying that mechanical and welding work is installed in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes, and quality standards. The Mechanical Quality Inspector will work closely with construction, quality, and commissioning teams to identify deficiencies, verify corrective actions, and support mechanical system walkdowns and turnover to operations.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform field inspections of mechanical installations including piping, structural steel, equipment setting, and supports
- Inspect welding activities and completed welds in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications
- Verify compliance with approved WPS, PQRs, and welder qualifications
- Review and validate inspection and test records, weld logs, and quality documentation
- Identify non-conformances and coordinate with construction and QA/QC teams to verify corrective actions
- Support mechanical walkdowns, punch list development, and system turnover activities
- Interface with construction, quality, and commissioning teams to support schedule and quality objectives
- Prepare clear, accurate inspection reports and daily/weekly quality documentation
- Strong working knowledge of welding codes and standards (AWS, ASME, etc.)
- Experience with piping systems, structural steel, and mechanical equipment installation
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, isometrics, specifications, and welding documentation
- Strong attention to detail with solid documentation and communication skills
- Comfortable working in active construction environments and interfacing with multiple stakeholders
- Active AWS CWI certification required
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical construction inspection and/or QA/QC on industrial or power generation projects- Additional NDT certifications (VT, PT, MT, UT) a plus
