Field Vibration Analyst / Engineer – Condition Monitoring (Sabine Pass, LA)
Wood’s Consulting business group is seeking a motivated Field Vibration Analyst/Engineer to join our growing Condition Monitoring team in the United States. This is a permanent, full‑time role that will be primarily site‑based for the first several years, working 4–5 days per week at a client facility in Sabine Pass, Louisiana.
This position offers exceptional hands‑on experience and professional development in machinery diagnostics, condition monitoring, and reliability engineering. - Perform routine vibration data collection on rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, motors, turbines, fans, gearboxes, etc.).
- Ensure correct sensor placement and consistent data‑collection methodology.
- Validate the quality of collected data and re‑measure if anomalies or noise are detected.
- Follow all safety procedures while conducting field work in hazardous or rotating‑machinery environments.
- Analyze vibration signatures using FFT spectra, time‑waveform, envelope analysis, and other diagnostic tools.
- Identify equipment faults such as:
- Imbalance
- Misalignment
- Bearing defects
- Mechanical looseness
- Resonance
- Gear faults
- Electrical issues (e.g., motor faults)
- Distinguish between critical and non‑critical anomalies to prioritize maintenance actions.
- Prepare detailed condition reports summarizing findings, vibration trends, and diagnostic conclusions.
- Provide clear maintenance recommendations (e.g., balancing, alignment, bearing replacement).
- Communicate equipment health status to maintenance, operations, and reliability teams.
- Track equipment degradation trends using historical data.
- Support development of predictive maintenance strategies and vibration monitoring routes.
- Participate in root cause failure analysis (RCFA) when equipment faults or failures occur.
- Work with planners to schedule corrective actions and minimize downtime.
- Manage vibration monitoring software platforms (e.g., Bently Nevada).
- Maintain databases of machinery assets and measurement points.
- Configure alarms, thresholds, and baseline benchmarks.
- Troubleshoot sensors, data collectors, and online monitoring systems
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a Technologist Diploma (in the Mechanical discipline) is preferred, however applicants with relevant work experience and Vibration certification will be considered.
- ISO Category II Vibration Certification
- ISO Category III Vibration Certification will be an asset
- Additional certifications in related condition monitoring technologies will be strong assets e.g., Thermography (Level I), Lubrication Analysis (MLT/MLA Level I or II), Ultrasonic Testing (Airborne Ultrasound Level I),
- Strong knowledge of rotating and reciprocating machinery (pumps, compressors, fans, motors, turbines, etc.).
- Proficiency with vibration data collection equipment and software like Bently Nevada, CSI/Emerson, Prüftechnik, etc..
- Bently Nevada Scout and System 1 knowledge will be an asset
- Ability to perform:
- Route-based and non route data collection
- Time waveform and spectrum analysis
- Fault diagnosis for common issues (misalignment, imbalance, bearing defects, looseness, resonance, etc.)
- 3 -5 years of hands-on vibration monitoring or condition monitoring experience
- Field experience working on large scale industrial sites (oil & gas, power generation, etc.),
- LNG experience will be an asset.
- Experience in troubleshooting mechanical and vibration-related problems is highly beneficial
- Strong analytical and problem solving ability
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for reporting and interacting with clients and colleagues
- Strong organizational skills to mange routes, reporting timelines, and multiple client deliverables
- Commitment to safety and adherence to HSSE procedures
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to client sites as needed
- Physically able to conduct fieldwork (climbing, walking, carrying analyzer kit, etc.)
- Familiarity with computer systems for reporting and data management (Excel, CMMS, vibration databases)
- Must be US citizen or authorized to work lawfully in the US, without sponsorship from Wood
