The Contracts Specialist is responsible for the timely and efficient contract development and execution for equipment, materials, supplies and services, in accordance with established category strategies, across assigned plant and/or mine locations in support of Luminant Fossil and Renewables Operations. The position will report to Fossil Procurement Management and will interact with all Sr Buyers and Procurement Specialists. The position is expected manage contracts through the entire life cycle, including authoring, redlining, execution, and maintenance over the contract term.
The Contracts Specialist is responsible for the timely and efficient development of contracts, SOW’s, and amendments that are executed with a high degree of quality for equipment, materials, supplies and services, in accordance with established category strategies and contracting practices across assigned company operations. The position will report to Supply Chain Leadership and will primarily support contract needs for the Site Buyer teams. Contract support for Procurement Specialists and other Supply Chain functions may be required from time to time as needs and workload dictate. The position is expected manage contracts through the entire life cycle, including authoring, redlining, execution, and maintenance over the contract term.
- Conduct/support supplier negotiations, including commercial and legal terms.
- Draft and implement contracts to support purchase of associated goods and services.
- Manage contract documents on an on-going basis including expiration's, renewals, statement of work (SOW) revisions, change orders, and amendments.
- Manage workflow and Coordinate with supply chain personnel and other internal stakeholders to gather business and technical requirements (statement of work) for contracts
- Coordinate with other internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure all contracts are compliant with company policies and procedures and executed timely
- Support and promote Vistra’s Supplier Diversity program by ensuring appropriate supplier diversity content is incorporated into all contracts.
- Resolve or escalate as necessary any vendor disputes or issues
- Ensure all executed contracts are entered and maintained in the contract life cycle management tool
- Support other procurement activities (process purchase requests, issue purchase orders, and resolve mismatch issues) as needed.
- Provide administrative support in managing contractor compliance with Vistra's contractor safety and insurance management platform
Input key contract terms into IBM Maximo to support procurement transactional processes
- Minimum 2 years relevant contracting or paralegal experience
- Demonstrates expert knowledge and ability to work with and discuss complex contract language including the ability to craft proposed legal language for terms and conditions.
- Can train and guide other professionals
- General business knowledge and acumen, with awareness of sourcing and management of cost, categories, suppliers, and projects
- Demonstrates solid negotiation knowledge, understanding different aspects of what is being negotiated, and ability to undertake simple to medium complex negotiations in known situations
- Ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders and provide high level of customer service while supporting Supply Chain and company goals
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills
- Responsible for the timely and efficient contracting for equipment, materials, supplies and services
- Ensuring contract and SOW quality to mitigate risk to the company and ensure compliance with company policy and procedures
- Maintain accurate data in contracting and purchasing systems.
- Manage contract expirations and renewals.
- Escalate issues and disputes within 24 hours of awareness
