Job Summary
The Sr. Electrical Engineer ( High Voltage) supports the design, development of electrical power systems in generation plants, substations, and transmission infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in high voltage power generation and equipment, electrical studies, protective relaying, with a solid understanding of applicable standards and codes.
Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Design, specify, implement and evaluate high voltage electrical systems, including generating plants, power transformers, high voltage breakers, meters, etc. as well as medium and low voltage electrical systems.
- Perform electrical studies such as load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and protection coordination, transient stability, power factor correction using tools like CDEGS, ETAP, SKM.
- Lead the engineering and design of power generation facilities, transmission substations, and distribution systems.
- Develop and review schematics, single-line and there-lien diagrams, and relay protection logic.
- Configure and test protective relays (e.g., SEL, GE, ABB) and implement relay settings based on system requirements.
- Ensure compliance with IEEE, ANSI, NESC, NFPA, and utility-specific standards.
- Collaborate with project teams, clients, and vendors to ensure successful project execution.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills And Abilities)
Basic or Minimum Qualifications- The candidate must have a BS degree in Electrical Engineering;
- For candidates with engineering degrees attained outside the U.S., the candidate must have attained an E.I.T. designation from a U.S. based state licensing board or [provide documentation that the educational institution is ABET accredited;
- Ten (10) years of experience in high voltage engineering, preferably in power generation or utility environments.
- Proficiency in CDEGS, ETAP, SKM, and other applicable electrical analysis software.
- Hands-on design experience with high voltage breakers, transformers, and substation equipment.
- Field experience as needed (site surveys etc.)
- Strong understanding of protective relaying principles and relay programming.
- Familiarity with transmission and distribution standards and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills.
- PE license and ability to get multi state license.
- Work is primarily conducted in an office environment (Private or Semi-Private Office) but also requires occasional travel to off-site work locations;
- Field duties require outdoor work in a construction site type atmosphere;
- Interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and client personnel;
- Working on a construction site or in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels
- Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection;
- May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes;
- May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.

- Sufficient manual dexterity which permit the employee to perform routine office duties;
- Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes to perform office duties and travel when necessary to off-site locations.
