Under direction, the main purposes of this position are to conduct duties in a manner that ensures overall plant safety and efficiency, record readings for auxiliary equipment on a regular basis, determine need for equipment repairs, communicate equipment problems and solutions among co-workers, and perform other duties as required.
- Operates and continually monitors all power plant auxiliary equipment, demineralizers, cooling towers, and ash-handling equipment for proper operating conditions before, during, and after unit start-ups and shutdowns;
- Removes bottom ash, fly ash, economizer ash, pyrite, clinkers and coal from bowl mills using shovels, hoes, and/or a 20 foot rake
- Works in areas in close proximity to high-voltage equipment, high pressure steam lines, chemical pumps, and other power plant related equipment.
Experience working with any of the following; pumps (high volume/low & high pressure pumps, positive displacement pumps), compressors, high voltage transformers, motors, boilers (such as small auxiliary steam boilers or positive/negative pressure boilers)
Ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) at all levels of the organization
Exceptional interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work as a team player
Ability to work an adjusted schedule as needed to meet deadlines. Ability to work call duty to include holidays, nights, and weekends as well as ability to work unscheduled overtime when needed.
Ability to work at any CPS Energy power plant location
Possess a valid driver’s license with a history of a safe driving record in accordance with CPSE policies, procedures, safety standards, and applicable laws and regulations
Ability to differentiate between colors and read control panels
Ability to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolds, and to work at high elevations and in enclosed spaces
Ability to work in an environment that includes high noise levels and exposure to extreme environmental conditions such as heat, cold, smoke, dust, fumes, heights, etc.
- Associate’s degree in Instrumentation & Controls or Electronics & Instrumentation;
- At least one year prior work experience within a power plant, refinery, naval vessel, or oil field;
- Prior experience in a shift work environment (day/night);
- Prior similar work experience, such as in power plants, refineries, or on naval vessels (i.e. Boiler Technician, Machinist Mate or Gas Turbine System Technician).
Work is performed indoors & outdoors. Manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of computing equipment, telephone, & printer/copier. Ability to travel to and from business related events. After hours work may be required.
