Job Title: Mine Surveyor / Project EngineerPosition Summary
The Mine Surveyor / Project Engineer is responsible for providing accurate surveying, engineering support, and technical oversight for mining projects. This role plays a key part in mine planning, pit development, project execution, and ensuring that operations align with design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Surveying & Mapping
- Conduct precise mine site surveys using GPS systems and drone-based technologies like Propeller
- Generate topographical maps, pit layouts, volumetric calculations, and progress tracking reports.
- Maintain and update mine plans, control points, and survey databases.
- Provide staking and layout for mine development, infrastructure, and construction projects.
- Assist in short-term and long-term mine planning, including pit design, haul road layouts, monthly quantities, and material movement scheduling.
- Develop engineering drawings, design models, and reports as required.
- Support permitting activities with technical data, maps, and engineering assessments.
- Prepare cost estimates, schedules, and project documentation.
- Work with mine operations to ensure designs are executed accurately and safely.
- Monitor pit progress, ensure compliance with design constraints, and recommend adjustments.
- Conduct as-built surveys to verify construction and mining activities.
- Assist with quality control of extracted material and stockpiles.
- Ensure survey and engineering activities comply with MSHA, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Participate in risk assessments, safety audits, and project reviews.
- Maintain accurate documentation for compliance and reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2–5+ years of surveying or mining engineering experience preferred.- Proficiency with surveying equipment (GPS, drones) and software (AutoCAD, Surpac, Carlson, ArcGIS, etc.).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in field conditions and navigate rugged terrain.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to coordinate with cross-functional teams.
- Experience in open-pit mining or aggregate/frac sand operations.
- Drone pilot certification.
- Familiarity with mine scheduling software (MineSched, Deswik, etc.).
- Project management experience.
- Combination of office and fieldwork in varying weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift equipment and walk/stand for extended periods.
