The Interface Manager is responsible for the coordination, alignment, and integration of technical, operational, and execution interfaces across multiple stakeholders involved in Capital Projects. This includes internal departments (Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, HSE, Procurement and Regulatory), external EPC contractors, third-party vendors, and regulatory bodies. The Interface Manager ensures that all interface points are clearly identified, documented, and managed to avoid scope gaps, delays, and miscommunications throughout the project lifecycle—from Front-End Loading (FEL) through Detailed Design, Construction, Commissioning, and Project Closeout.
The Interface Manager works closely with Project Managers, Engineering Managers, and Operations representatives to manage both brownfield and greenfield interfaces, ensuring the successful and safe integration of new systems and modifications into existing facilities.
This position is primarily based at the Headquarters of Freeport LNG in Houston with frequent expected travel to project sites in and around Freeport, TX, including liquefaction and pretreatment facilities. Travel to EPC offices in the Houston area and to vendor or supplier locations (domestic and international) may also be required based on project needs. A valid driver’s license and Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) are required at all times.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities / Essential Functions
- Lead and manage all project interfaces—technical, functional, and execution-related—between internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain interface registers, diagrams, and trackers to ensure timely resolution of interface issues.
- Coordinate and facilitate regular interface meetings and workshops between design, construction, operations, and other relevant parties.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and Engineering to define interface scopes and ensure alignment during all project phases.
- Identify and proactively mitigate potential interface-related risks or conflicts before they impact project schedule or quality.
- Ensure seamless integration of project deliverables into operating facilities, aligning with plant operations and maintenance requirements.
- Support Management of Change (MOC) efforts related to interface modifications and ensure regulatory and safety compliance.
- Ensure that key decisions related to interfaces are documented and communicated across disciplines and to all impacted stakeholders.
- Promote and foster a strong safety and quality culture across all interfacing teams and contractors.
- Prepare and deliver progress reports related to interface status, key risks, and mitigation strategies to project leadership.
- Ensure alignment with Freeport LNG Capital Project Execution work processes and support continuous improvement efforts.
- Perform Project Management duties as necessary to support capital projects.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent technical degree.
Minimum Experience:
5+ years of engineering and project execution experience in the oil & gas, LNG, or industrial sectors, including direct involvement in interface coordination roles.Preferred Certifications:
PMP certification from PMI or equivalent project coordination training.
Preferred Experience:
10+ years of experience in US-based LNG projects or major capital projects. Familiarity with FERC and PHMSA regulations for LNG facilities is a plus. Prior experience in multi-discipline coordination involving Operations, Maintenance, and EPC contractors is highly desirable.- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage diverse technical and execution teams.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills to clearly document and convey interface requirements and resolutions.
- High attention to detail, particularly in scope definition and schedule coordination.
- Ability to anticipate potential issues and proactively develop mitigation strategies.
- Skilled in tracking tools such as interface registers, risk matrices, and status dashboards.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); knowledge of project collaboration platforms (e.g., SharePoint, Primavera, SmartPlant) is a plus.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-stakeholder environment and prioritize competing demands.
- Ability to execute Project Management duties commiserate with FEL-1, FEL-2, FEL-3 and detail design projects.
- Must be able to wear all necessary PPE to perform field functions.
- Operates in both professional office settings and industrial plant environments.
- Frequent travel to project and construction sites.
- Ability to drive to other Company work locations as required.
- Must be capable of walking, climbing, and conducting field walkdowns in operating facilities.
- May be required to enter confined spaces or work at elevated heights.
- Normal physical activity includes talking, hearing, standing, and walking.
- Must maintain a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) and driver’s license.
