The Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) Shop Technician is responsible for the inspection, assembly, testing, maintenance, and repair of MPD equipment in a shop environment. This role supports field operations by ensuring all MPD systems and components are prepared, compliant, and fully functional prior to deployment, as well as properly serviced upon return from the field.
- High school diploma or GED required. - 2+ years experience with oilfield equipment.
- Knowledge of pressure control and high-pressure systems.
- Ability to read technical drawings and procedures.
- Familiarity with API standards (16RCD, 16C, 7K).
Strong mechanical aptitude with basic electrical and hydraulic knowledge.
Technical degree preferred.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods.
- Ability to work in an industrial shop environment.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Overtime and weekend work may be required based on operational needs.
- Inspect, assemble, disassemble, and maintain MPD equipment including RCDs, choke manifolds, control systems, and sensors.
- Perform pressure testing and function testing per company procedures and applicable API standards.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues.
- Document inspections, maintenance, and test results in maintenance tracking systems.
- Prepare MPD packages for field mobilization and demobilization.
- Assist with equipment failure analysis and corrective actions.
- Maintain shop cleanliness and organization.
- Follow all safety policies and lockout/tagout requirements.
- Coordinate with MPD engineers, field technicians, and operations personnel.
