SUMMARY: Relevant Power Solutions (RPS) is a diversified power company with extensive experience with aero-derivative gas turbines. At our manufacturing facility in Houston, we design, build, and test gas turbine packages for use in the power generation and gas compression markets. In addition to packaging, we also provide After-Market Sales & Services, Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services, integrating gas turbine packages with Balance of Plant (BOP) equipment, to provide turnkey power plant solutions.
The Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Field Service Technician is responsible for the installation, calibration, troubleshooting, maintenance, and commissioning of control systems and instrumentation in power plants, industrial facilities, and energy infrastructure. This position requires strong technical knowledge in control systems, field instrumentation, and process automation, along with a commitment to safety and quality in field service environments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Establish, develop, and maintain positive business and customer relationships
•Plan and execute all aspects of service work, including labor, materials, and equipment
•Develop and maintain O&M and Services tooling
•Understand and utilize CMMS
•Participate in planning and execution of outages
•Perform installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment such as switchgear, transformers, motors, MCCs, circuit breakers, relays, protection systems, and control panels.
•Install, commission, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation including pressure, temperature, level, flow, and analytical transmitters.
•Conduct insulation resistance testing, hi-pot testing, relay calibration, breaker timing, and troubleshooting of low- and medium-voltage systems.
•Perform functional testing and loop checks of instrumentation and control systems.
•Configure and troubleshoot DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems from various manufacturers (e.g., Siemens, GE, Emerson, Allen-Bradley, Honeywell).
•Support startup and commissioning of control systems, including turbine/generator control, balance of plant systems, and safety systems.
•Interpret electrical drawings, one-line diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals to carry out work accurately
•Interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, I/O lists, wiring diagrams, and control logic documentation.
•Complete and maintain accurate service reports, calibration records, and as-built documentation.
•Diagnose control system failures and recommend corrective actions or upgrades.
•Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety, quality, and compliance standards.
•Provide detailed technical support and recommendations to customers and internal teams.
•Document work performed through detailed service reports, inspection checklists, and customer sign-off documentation.
•Train customer personnel on equipment operation and maintenance best practices.
•Communicate job status, field issues, and opportunities to the Field Service Manager or Project Manager.
•Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams on field modifications or product improvements.
•Provide root cause analysis and corrective actions for equipment failures and electrical faults.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•High School diploma or GED; technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
•3+ years of hands-on field experience in I&C maintenance, commissioning, or troubleshooting.
•Proficiency with calibrators, multimeters, loop simulators, and other diagnostic equipment.
•Familiarity with major PLC/DCS platforms (Siemens, Rockwell, Emerson, ABB, etc.).
•Knowledge of process control principles and instrumentation communications (e.g., HART, Modbus, Profibus).
•Excellent knowledge of MS Office
•Detail-oriented with good problem-solving skills.
•Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
•Self-motivated and able to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
•Familiarity with gas turbine power plants, packages, systems, and components is preferred.
•Ability to travel extensively, often on short notice, including international travel.
