Job Overview
The Field Safety Representative is responsible for monitoring safety performance at rig location and ensuring compliance with company, customer, and regulatory standards. This role supports new-hire field onboarding, conducts safety audits, and provides hands-on guidance to reinforce safe work practices. The Field Safety Representative also contributes to continuous improvement by performing inspections and observations, assisting with incident investigations, and strengthening overall safety programs.
- Rig-Site Safety Oversight
- Conduct daily safety audits on rig-site locations to verify compliance with operational procedures, customer requirements, and safety policies.
- Perform joint safety audits with operator representatives to support multi-company safety initiatives and contractor expectations.
- Observe field operations to ensure employees perform tasks safely, correctly, and efficiently, providing coaching when necessary.
- Transport new hires to rig locations and administer SSE (Short Service Employee) field orientations.
- Ensure all SSE personnel complete required orientations (Exxon, Pioneer, Ensign, etc.) and verify new hires understand operational policies, procedures, associated job hazards, and overall company and customer expectations.
- Monitor SSEs during initial field assignments to ensure they demonstrate safe work practices and competency prior to transitioning to full-duty status.
- Ensure employees follow company policies, safe work practices, and operational standards in the field.
- Provide immediate safety support during field operations by addressing hazards, correcting unsafe behaviors, and guiding crews on proper procedures.
- Participate in field-based safety meetings and reinforce critical safety expectations with crews.
- Assist with incident investigations by gathering facts, interviewing personnel, and documenting details.
- Complete formal analysis including root-cause investigation, 5-Why analysis, near-miss documentation, and risk assessment.
- Recommend corrective and preventive actions to eliminate recurrence and improve field safety performance.
- Review Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) on location to ensure accuracy and alignment with job tasks, hazards, and controls.
- Perform continuous monitoring for hazards such as red zones, pinch points, dropped-object risks, and environmental concerns.
- Verify that crews are using proper PPE, following safe lifting practices, and complying with rig-specific safety guidelines.
- The Safety Representative is responsible for leading and championing the company’s Behavioral-Based Safety (BBS) program across field operations. This role promotes a strong safety culture by encouraging positive behaviors, coaching personnel, and engagement at all levels. Key responsibilities include conducting behavior-focused observations, facilitating BBS meetings and training, tracking and analyzing trends, and partnering with crews and supervisors to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Bilingual with proficiency in English required
- Safety Experience
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and data entry proficiency
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey information clearly and professionally
- Driver License
