Position Summary
As a Relay Settings Team member, you’ll be responsible for providing relay settings and/or taking part in conceptual designs that conform to Oncor protection philosophies to quickly remove electrical faults from the system and providing technical support to region and district transmission organizations. This position may include, but not limited to, calculating fault duties, performing fault analysis and technical studies, and providing guidance in the analysis of relay operations.
Our System Protection organization at Oncor responsible for the design, support, and standardization of the relay protection systems needed to detect and isolate electrical faults quickly and reliably so as to minimize customer interruptions, maintain power grid reliability, minimize equipment damage, and ensure customer and employee safety.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide timely, accurate, well designed, and well-documented relay settings that conform to system protection philosophies using related application software.
- Understand the electrical design, application, and testing of legacy electromechanical and microprocessor protective relaying.
- Understand relay coordination methodologies and applicable software tools.
- Understand Oncor protective schemes and the proper application of the schemes.
- Analysis of operations of Transmission and Distribution protection and control devices.
- Provide real-time, interactive, direct technical support to region and district transmission organizations in all areas of system protection such as locating faults, creating protective relaying recommendations, and performing technical studies.
- Evaluate system impact for proposed projects.
- Perform Normally Open (N.O.) Switch studies to support system outage requests from Transmission Construction Management (TCM) for project construction.
- Perform root cause analysis and provide system fault duties and system impedances to Customers and/or external Engineering Consultants for the protective relay coordination at points of interconnection between Oncor and Customers.
- Effectively manage a significant number of assignments while maintaining work quality, reliability, and volume.
- Provide peer review of relay settings from other team members.
- Manage and/or review the work of contract resources.
- Present detailed documentation and plans ranging from basic to slightly complex design.
- Utilize personal computer-based engineering design, communication, scheduling, estimating, and word processing computer programs.
- Ensure projects meet deadlines.
- Managing project progress and adapt work as required.
- Effectively represent System Protection on working groups both internal and external to Oncor.
- Perform all essential aspects and functions of the job as well as any other specific job requirements.
- Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Knowledge in at least one area related to Power System Protection subject matter.
- Basic knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, and Outlook).
- Demonstrated ability to complete tasks and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated competency in using engineering computer software applications.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with internal and external key stakeholders.
- Knowledge of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Protective Relaying standards and North America Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Protection and Control (PRC) standards.
- Ability to effectively communicate complex subject matter and company issues to vendor and Oncor Electric Delivery employees.
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field required.
- Applicants capable of being licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) or are licensed as a Professional Engineer in the State of Texas are encouraged to apply.
- Applicants with experience in relay settings are encouraged to apply.

Engineer- 2+ years of relevant engineering experience required.
- 4+ years of relevant engineering experience required.
- 6+ years of relevant engineering experience required.
- Compliance with listed NERC PRC standards is maintained.
- Field support is provided in a timely manner.
- Misoperation Reports are created and released in a timely manner.
