Job Overview Entry-Level Project Manager / Superintendent (Hybrid Role)
Nxt Gen Excavating is seeking a highly motivated Entry-Level Project Manager / Superintendent with a minimum of 3 years of hands-on excavation experience. This is a hybrid role with approximately a 50/50 split between office and field work.
You must be comfortable spending significant time in the field, providing guidance to crews, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and to company standards—while also handling office-side coordination, planning, and communication.
This position will initially manage residential and small commercial projects, with strong potential to transition into larger commercial and civil projects next year.
- Minimum 3 years of excavation experience
- Experience with both residential and commercial excavation projects
- Proficient in:
- Clearing & grubbing
- Rough & fine grading
- Underground utilities (water, sewer, storm)
- Strong understanding of excavation workflows, sequencing, and production
- Familiar with excavation business practices and job coordination
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions on the fly
- Ability to adapt to constantly changing schedules and communicate changes clearly to clients, field crews, and the office
- Experience with GPS machine control and/or layout systems (Trimble, Topcon, Leica, etc.)
- Experience using project management or construction software
- Prior experience assisting with estimating, scheduling, or job costing

- Be present on jobsites regularly to:
- Support, guide, and coach field crews
- Ensure production, safety, and quality standards are met
- Address issues in real time before they impact schedule or cost
- Coordinate equipment, materials, and subcontractors
- Communicate directly with inspectors, utility companies, and clients
- Assist with scheduling, planning, and coordination of multiple projects
- Track daily production, quantities, and job progress
- Maintain project documentation (daily reports, photos, quantities)
- Serve as the communication bridge between the field and office
- Support inspections, closeout, and client communication
- Strong memory and excellent organizational skills
- Self-starter with initiative and accountability
- Comfortable leading crews and offering guidance in the field
- Professional, confident communicator
- Tech-savvy and comfortable using mobile devices for work
- Able to juggle priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Fluent bilingual communication (English & Spanish) is strongly preferred
- Bilingual candidates will be given significant preference, as this role regularly communicates with field crews, subcontractors, inspectors, and clients.
