Pioneer Solar & Renewables is a leading residential solar contractor accelerating Western Canada's transition to clean energy. We specialize in solar PV installations, energy storage systems, and comprehensive renewable energy solutions for residential and large-scale commercial projects. As we grow, we are looking to modernize our internal operations and digital infrastructure. We are seeking a motivated Digital Solutions Specialist to lead our IT transformation, optimize our digital presence, and streamline our business processes.
This position is part of the Mitacs Business Strategy Internship (BSI) program. You will work directly with our team to implement critical IT projects that bridge the gap between technical infrastructure and business strategy.
This is not just an IT support role; it is a strategic position where you will select, develop, and deploy systems that will scale with our company. In this role, you won't just be "fixing computers"—you will be a key architect of our internal processes. You will spearhead the selection and development of our new ERP system, optimize our e-commerce presence, and manage the logistics that keep our projects moving.
This is an ideal opportunity for a tech-savvy student or recent graduate to gain hands-on experience in Project Management, IT Strategy, and Operations within the high-growth renewable energy sector.
- ERP Development: Evaluate, select, and support the beta implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system tailored to our solar operations (sales, projects, logistics, finance).
- Hardware & Network Management: Coordinate the procurement and setup of new office hardware. Manage Network Attached Storage (NAS) setup, including backups, user access, and data retention protocols.
- Technical Support: Support specific IT helpdesk activities, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues for the internal team and documenting solutions.
- IT Strategy: Provide guidance and decision-making support on new technology investments.
- Process Mapping: Map core business processes (sales, design, permitting, logistics) to identify opportunities for automation and digital workflow improvements.
- Platform Integration: Integrate key platforms (CRM, Slack, SharePoint, Canva, Adobe, WooCommerce) to reduce manual work and duplicate data entry.
- Data Organization: Audit and organize digital assets across cloud storage platforms and support the design and documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for digital workflows and tools.
- Online Store Management: Maintain and update products, pricing, and content on our WooCommerce store to ensure accurate listings for solar equipment.
- Shipping Coordination: Manage domestic and international shipping processes, ensuring compliance with customs regulations. Track shipments and resolve delivery issues.
- Performance Optimization: Monitor e-commerce analytics (traffic, conversion, errors) and recommend improvements to user experience and site structure.
- Digital Presence: Support website maintenance and implement basic SEO best practices to increase visibility.
- Documentation: Prepare detailed project proposals and professional documentation for clients and internal use.
- Solar Design Support: Assist with solar design and proposal workflows using software such as Open Solar, supporting the creation of accurate proposals, drawings, and permitting documentation where appropriate.
- Client Onboarding: Create simple digital resources, such as short YouTube tutorial videos, to guide clients through key processes.
- Drone Operation: Operate drones for site assessments and project documentation (training provided).
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Technology Management, Commerce with IT focus, or similar.
- Demonstrated experience with software integration (API, ERP), website development, and general IT troubleshooting.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Note: Must be a registered student (College/Undergraduate/Graduate) OR a recent graduate (within 2 years) at a Canadian post-secondary institution.
- Demonstrated experience with software integration (API, ERP), website development, and general IT troubleshooting.
- Strong technical aptitude and familiarity with common business tools (e.g., SharePoint, Google Workspace, cloud storage solutions).
- Proficiency with e-commerce platforms (WooCommerce), ERP concepts, cloud storage management, and basic SEO/web analytics.
- Strong project management abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work on-site in a collaborative, fast-paced small-business environment.
- Experience with solar design software (e.g., Open Solar) or drone piloting (training provided).
- Experience with ERP, CRM, or project management platforms.
- Interest in renewable energy, sustainability, or clean technology.
- Basic video editing skills for creating tutorial content.
- Drone piloting experience (training provided).
- Growth opportunities in the high-demand renewable energy industry
- Impactful work contributing to community sustainability and environmental protection
- Family-first policy promoting work-life balance
- Great work environment focused on teamwork, professionalism, and growth
- Opportunities for advancement and skill development in an expanding industry
