About the Opportunity
This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.
Transformer Shop Transformer Technician B receives instructions and training in and performs routine duties associated with the operation of the transformer shop; effectively assists higher rated employees in the performance of such duties; and performs all other work as assigned.
The following minimum qualifications must be met in order to obtain and retain this classification:
- Knowledge and Skills: Ability to meet job knowledge and skill requirements will be determined by company interviews and/or tests. In addition to successfully passing the EEI CAST test administered by the Company, the qualifications for this position are listed below.
- Transformer Technician – Electrical experience required; Technical degree or certifications in electrical courses preferred.
- All employees hired into this classification will be required to complete and pass approximately 4 hours of courses per week for 16 weeks, total of approximately 64 hours, at West Moreland County Community College, WMCCC.
- Company will allow employees to complete courses at WMCCC on company time.
- Company will pay for expenses at WMCCC.
- 6 month right to return for employee and management is agreed upon. Employee must pass all courses at WCCC or will be returned to previous position regardless of timeframe.
- Work Characteristics: Ability to work safely and follow all Company Policies.
- Physical: Ability to climb and work off ladders and scaffolds and perform moderately heavy physical work. Must have vision corrected to 20-30 and pass color vision test.
- Mental: Ability to use individual initiative, ingenuity, and judgement in determining work to be performed. Must have ability to learn and perform the operations required to inspect, test, repair, and overhaul transformers, mobile substations, circuit breakers, line regulators, and perform all other shop/field related electrical and mechanical work.
- Clerical: Ability to write legibly and maintain accurate records and reports.
- Special: Ability to safely operate material-handling equipment. Must demonstrate a genuine interest in learning, through individual and cooperative efforts, all required duties of this classification.
Normally, 8 hours per day, 5 days per week. Overtime as required.
- Load, unload and move equipment and other items using forklifts, trucks, cranes, rollers and other material handling equipment.
- Clean equipment and tools using pressure washers, steam cleaning and various cleaning chemicals.
- Perform all duties associated with painting equipment to include setting up the painting equipment, sanding/stripping, masking and painting.
- Assign company numbers and identification labels to equipment and tools.
- Make minor repairs to all equipment and tools coming through the shop.
- Inspect, overhaul, replace parts, test, service, repair and maintain single phase reclosers and single phase overhead and single phase pad mount transformers.
- Assist with duties associated with overhauling and repairing mobile substations. (Applicable only if a refurb is scheduled during the progression period)
- Sort and document incoming equipment and tools for the purpose of reconditioning or surplusing.
- With assistance from a Transformer Shop Transformer Technician A, perform duties associated with the set-up and operation of electrical equipment (TTR, HIPOT, and Megger) used to test the operation of any electrical distribution, transmission, and metering equipment.
- With assistance from a Transformer Shop Transformer Technician A, perform duties associated with the set-up and operation of high voltage test equipment.
- Inspect, repair, refinish and test various types of hotsticks and fiberglass products.
- Trace, repair, and renew circuit wiring on all distribution, transmission, and metering equipment
- Perform work of higher classification for the purpose of training.
1. Maintain tools, testing, and other equipment in good operating condition.
2. Keep work areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
4. Prepare complete and accurate reports and records.
5. Preform other miscellaneous job duties when assigned.
