Bob’s Metals, Inc. provides high quality scrap metal recycling services to industrial, manufacturing and service industries throughout the Pacific Northwest region. Our company utilizes state-of-the-art equipment including material handlers with grapples and magnets, forklifts, mobile shears, balers, and metallurgical analyzers to recycle scrap material effectively. Scrap metal is processed by sorting, cutting, torching, shearing, and baling. Our company has a strong commitment to efficient and environmentally friendly processing of metals to specific size, density and quality that is preferred by steel mills and foundries for melting in the production of new finished products.
The primary function of this job will be to drive the Company’s roll-off trucks (Class A). This will generally include pick-ups and deliveries of scrap metal to and from supplier and customer locations in the Pacific Northwest. While most of the hauls are local we also do deliveries to Spokane, Washington. Being available for occasional overnight runs is required for this role. It is expected that minimum working hours will be Monday-Friday eight-hour shifts assigned by Management with the possibility of an occasional Saturday shift based on needs and circumstance.
· Drive and maintain trucks safely. Responsible for maintenance on vehicles each morning. Check all fluids and tires. Once a week lube the rail system. Before leaving at the end of a shift, prepare the truck for the next day hauling and delivery schedule. Always check for flat tires at the end of a shift. Report all mechanical problems, no matter how insignificant, immediately to the supervisor. Keep the inside of the trucks clean and free of dirt and trash and absolutely no smoking in or around the trucks.
· Fill the truck with diesel at the end of each day before returning to the yard or ensure that onsite mobile fueling is scheduled to occur.
· Always carry a hands-free cell phone even when leaving the truck. Calls are expected to be answered unless safety or another situation prevents immediate response. When a call is missed, please listen to the message quickly and respond accordingly.
· Always assist other Bob’s Metals drivers if they encounter difficulty on the road, at an account or scrap yard including our yard.
· Maintain relevant hauling documentation and provide copies to supplier or customer as determined appropriate.
· Do not haul any load determined unsafe or containing hazardous materials. Call a supervisor before discussing the matter with the account’s employees and he will handle the situation.
· Ensure loads are properly secured including tying down all loads especially 4 x 4 boxes.
· Before leaving an account, always check the container’s wheels and under the rail system to make sure there is no debris that might fly off during transport. Look around the truck to make sure it’s safe to leave.
· Adhere to all federal, state and company rules on safety.
· Perform daily vehicle inspection monitoring and reporting.
· Coordinate and assist with onsite mechanics for applicable maintenance.
· Assist with general yard duties if no runs are available.
SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THE JOB:
· Able to communicate with the public and co-workers in a positive and informed manner.
· Able to handle the physical demands of all assigned jobs which may include bending, lift 50 pounds and climbing ladders.
· High School Education and Truck Driving School is required.
· Minimum 3 years driving roll-off container trucks or equivalent is preferred.
· Previous experience in a manufacturing, industrial or wholesale business is preferred.
· Previous experience in a scrap yard is a plus.
· Commercial Driver License (CDL), Medical Examiner’s Certificate
