The Wastewater Treatment Operator operates and monitors all City owned Wastewater Treatment Facilities and pumping stations. They will maintain wastewater facilities in compliance with applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor treatment plan and facility processes and record activities consistent with regulatory requirements.
- Complete Chain of Custody documentation and delivery of samples to lab for analysis.
- Identify non-compliances and report any spills or overflow events.
- Respond to alarms, troubleshoot and rectify issues as they arise.
- Evaluate trends and identify visual and audible abnormalities to determine process performance.
- Take appropriate corrective action to address incidents of non-compliance and deviations from design objectives.
- Identify and propose improvements to operational plans, procedures, workflow processes and infrastructure.
- Review internal and external facility testing results and determine treatment efficiency, identify potential process issues and administer the appropriate operational changes.
- Conduct routine maintenance checks on facility equipment and notify appropriate stakeholders of issues or required repairs.
- Comply with all health and safety requirements, maintain a safe work environment, report hazards and promote a culture of safety in the workplace.
- Advanced knowledge of MECP Regulations and requirements for logs, data collection and entry
- Advanced knowledge and proficiency with treatment unit processes, lab and sampling procedures and techniques
- Ability to operate various equipment including loader, plowing equipment, boom, forklift etc.
- Advanced proficiency with SCADA
- Intermediate knowledge of O.Reg 129/04
- Ability to follow instructions and procedures required to run, calibrate and maintain specialized equipment
- Intermediate math skills to ensure accurate calculations of dosages, usage, flow rates etc.
- Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individual, organizational and operational requirements
- Basic MS365 skills
- Post-secondary diploma in Environmental or Civil Engineering Technology or related discipline
- Level 1 Wastewater Treatment license with the ability to progress to required facility classification levels. OIT licensing will be considered.
- Class G drivers’ license
- Applicant must be capable of walking, lifting and climbing and perform the physical demands of the position.
- Acquire and maintain the minimum licensing requirements in Wastewater Treatment.
- Maintain a valid Class “G” driver’s license throughout employment.
- Must be reliable and able to work shift rotation, including night shift.
- A criminal record check satisfactory to Utilities Kingston at the successful candidate's own expense.
