About Island Gold Mine: Alamos Gold’s Island Gold Mine is one of Canada’s highest grade and lowest cost gold mines. With over 550 team members, the underground operation is located in northern Ontario, just east of the town of Dubreuilville, 83 kilometres northeast of Wawa. Through ongoing exploration success, Island Gold’s Mineral Reserves and Resources have continued to grow in size and quality. This has supported a multi-phase expansion of the operation, driving production higher, costs lower, and strong free cash flow growth. Reporting to the Mine Operations Supervisor, the Face Shovel Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and productive operation of heavy equipment in a complex mining environment. The successful candidate responsibilities may also include; ability to maintain mining face, truck loading, backfilling; ditching; excavating; rough grading; grubbing; sub-grade excavating; sub-grade rolling; trenching; material handling; slope grooming and; snow removal.
- Practice safe work behaviours and support the Magino safety culture through participation in daily and monthly safety meetings.
- Safely operate face shovels, as well as other assigned equipment to meet daily plan and operation targets.
- Effective communication using a 2-way radio system.
- Maintain equipment integrity.
- Complete risk assessments prior to each task.
- Perform pre-operations and post-operations circle check and complete equipment logbooks.
- Will be required to meet planned targets on a shift-by-shift basis.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- A valid driver’s license (G class).
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience operating Face Shovel, preferably in an open pit mine.
- Ability to work independently, and in a team to achieve best-in-class efficiency and productivity.
- Self-motivated with excellent time management skills and the ability to manage competing demands and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to communicate clearly.
- Ability to support and promote Health & Safety practices.
- The role is located at the Magino Mine, which is approximately 88 kilometers northeast of Wawa, Ontario, Canada.
- The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 7 days on and 7 off or 14 days on and 14 days off (12-hour days).
- Although you will be assigned a work schedule, this is not a guaranteed schedule of hours, and your work hours may vary with the needs of the company.
- Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts.
