Position Title: Energy Efficiency Technician (for Water & Wastewater Utilities)
The Ohio Rural Water Association (ORWA) is seeking an Energy Efficiency Technician to help drinking water and wastewater utilities across Ohio reduce energy costs and improve system performance. In this role, you will visit treatment plants and associated facilities, evaluate electrical equipment and operations, and develop recommendations that help utilities operate more efficiently and sustainably.
This position is ideal for someone with experience in water/wastewater systems, utilities, or electrical work who enjoys field work, problem solving, and working directly with communities.
- Travel throughout Ohio to conduct energy efficiency assessments at water and wastewater treatment facilities
- Collect data on pumps, motors, electrical equipment, and operational schedules
- Analyze energy usage and prepare technical reports with energy-saving recommendations
- Work directly with system operators and local officials to identify opportunities for improved efficiency
- Maintain relationships with ORWA member utilities and assist with outreach and recruitment
- Attend industry meetings, conferences, and training events related to energy efficiency and utility operations
- Assist with ORWA conferences, training seminars, and special programs
- Submit regular reports documenting field work and program progress
This is a field-based position that involves traveling to water and wastewater utilities throughout Ohio. Technicians work independently while conducting site visits, collecting operational data, and preparing reports.
Most travel consists of day trips within Ohio, though occasional overnight travel may be required for conferences, training events, or longer site visits.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in water/wastewater operations, municipal utilities, electrical systems, or a related technical field
- Ability to travel throughout Ohio
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar software
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Experience working at water or wastewater treatment facilities
- Familiarity with pumps, motors, and electrical equipment
- Interest in energy efficiency technologies and infrastructure
Salary: $35,000 - $40,000 depending on qualifications and experience
