Cenovus Energy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer, Turnaround (TAR) Lead to provide engineering technical support for TAR planning and execution teams acting as the liaison for the Asset Engineering Teams. This role ensures planning process aligns with engineering codes and standards, develops tools and processes to improve TAR Planning quality and efficiency, recommends third party support model for TAR planning, and evaluates competency for external resource. This position works closely with and coordinates with the appropriate discipline engineer(s), asset coordinators, and managers to help drive safe and reliable performance in accordance with operating plans. The Senior Mechanical Engineer, TAR Lead can potentially be on a rotating on-call schedule to support the operation's needs, where some nights/weekends may be required.
- Review of Turnaround (TAR) scope to ensure it aligns with TAR Premise. Primary technical contact for day-to-day TAR maintenance. Works with technical Subject Matter Experts to align TAR planning processes with engineering standards and reliability strategies for all asset classes
- Apply Continuous Improvement process to improve TAR planning and engineering. Determine appropriate resources to develop TAR package requirements
- Works with unit inspector(s) and asset engineers to assist with mitigation of mechanical integrity threats, perform fitness-for-service evaluations, equipment strategies/RBI and recommend end-of-life strategies
- Investigates accidents, near-misses and RCA (using 5 whys, fault tree analysis and Sologic) as assigned
- Responsible for the development of Engineering Packages for Approval (IFA) and for Construction (IFC) for TAR work
- Provides assurance of TAR discovery - related scope into the TAR worklists, integrate TAR findings into reliability plans
- Understand short-term and long-term cost drivers, reliability, availability, and mechanical integrity risks and develop mitigation plans
- Understands how Unit Strategies support overall site targets and plays an integral role in assuring reliability risks are adequately addressed through Unit Strategies, TAR Strategies, Annual Maintenance Plans, Asset Criticality Lists and Defect Elimination lists
- Legally authorized to work in the US
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or other closely related engineering discipline required
- 8+ years experience in a refinery or other heavy industrial experience related to fixed equipment required- Knowledgeable in relevant ASME, API, and ISO standards and codes
- Knowledgeable in safe work practices within an operating oil refinery
- Maximo, Meridium, AutoCAD experience considered an asset
- Project Management experience considered an asset
