Job Description: Roustabout Crew Leader (Oil & Gas Industry)
The Roustabout Crew Leader supervises and coordinates the activities of a roustabout crew supporting drilling, production, and field operations. This role ensures that oilfield maintenance, facility construction, equipment handling, and general labor tasks are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Lead, direct, and mentor roustabout crew members to complete daily tasks safely and efficiently.
- Assign work priorities, provide on-the-job training, and ensure crew members understand job standards and safety expectations.
- Monitor crew performance, provide coaching, and communicate operational updates to supervisors and field managers.
- Oversee and participate in oilfield construction and maintenance tasks, including installing flowlines, setting tanks, building sites, and assembling equipment.
- Direct pipe handling, equipment rig-up/rig-down, and general site preparation activities.
- Assist with well-site operations, including maintenance of pumping units, tank batteries, separators, and other surface equipment.
- Operate and oversee the operation of equipment such as forklifts, loaders, manlifts, telehandlers, and trucks (as permitted by certifications).
- Must be able to weld and fabricate proficiently, operate mini excavator, fuse pipe, thread pipe, and other tasks as required
- Enforce strict adherence to safety procedures, including PPE use, hazard identification, toolbox talks, and job safety analyses (JSAs).
- Ensure compliance with all company, industry, and regulatory standards (OSHA, HSE, environmental guidelines, etc.).
- Report unsafe conditions, near misses, incidents, and equipment issues to supervisors and safety personnel.
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities, inspections, and safety documentation.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and vehicles are properly maintained, inspected, and stored.
- Coordinate materials, supplies, and equipment needed for daily operations.
- Monitor job sites for environmental risks, housekeeping standards, and proper waste handling.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 3–5+ years of roustabout or oilfield labor experience; at least 1–2 years in a leadership or lead-hand role preferred.- Experience with oilfield construction, facility maintenance, and equipment handling.
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to guide crews in remote field environments.
- Knowledge of oilfield equipment, tools, and construction practices.
- Ability to read and interpret basic site drawings, instructions, and operational guidelines.
- Commitment to safety, teamwork, and professional conduct.
- Field-based work in drilling, production, pipeline, or facility construction environments.
- Exposure to extreme weather conditions, loud equipment, heavy lifting, and physically demanding tasks.
- May involve rotating schedules, on-call duties, and extended hours depending on operational needs.- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights, climb tanks/ladders, operate equipment, and perform strenuous physical labor.
- Ability to work long hours in outdoor conditions.
