The Global Technical Design Manager is the highest-level Technical Design Manager position that oversees all aspects of their respective group(s). This individual will direct and supervise the activities of Technical Designers in support of proposal and project execution. They must work with Project Managers, Project Engineering, Scheduling, Estimating, and other groups as required to complete tasks in an accurate and timely manner. This individual serves as the lead for the entire Technical Design group, following processes based on their experience, knowledge-base, and the current market.
- Serve as a point of contact for all technical design activities. Interface with other departments and provide assistance as required.
- Coordinate the production of models and the drafting of working drawings and specification sheets with the group Supervisors. .
- Assign and manage work load for Technical Design in collaboration with the Technical Design supervisors. Work with the TD Supervisors to develop hour estimates for technical design activities.
- Manages our relationship with our offshore 3rd party engineering resource. This entails ensuring that the level of resources for Global Engineering is understood, appropriate, and adjusted as necessary. Will participate in management level meetings between the companies. Will review and approve billings and invoices and confirm the data driving those is correct.
- Stay up to date on competing products and design styles to obtain perspective and generate design concepts. Participate in new product planning, including considering the potential need for new products.
- Be a technical lead for all of Technical Design. Coordinate activities on projects to ensure work is completed accurately and timely.
- Analyze flaws or failures in our designs and ensure that solutions are developed to resolve the issue(s).
- Lead by example, encouraging a culture of flexibility in the Technical Design Engineering department
- Review project contracts if necessary to determine requirements for model and/or drawing submittals.
- Supervise activities with TD Supervisors to ensure current determination of priorities. Coordinate with other internal departments affected by design development.
- Perform personnel functions such as supervision, conflict management, and corrective action.
- Complete periodic job site visits as required. Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Minimum Associates Degree
- Minimum 10 years experience in Technical Design or related department
- Experience and knowledge of B&W products
- Thorough understanding of Technical design responsibilities and processes
- Knowledge in 3D modeling software, 2D drafting software and drafting/modeling techniques
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral
- Ability to work in a team environment and drive changes in a fast-paced environment
- Leadership skills with the ability to influence others to perform their jobs efficiently
- A strong technical understanding of B&W product lines and standards
- Willingness to learn new products and support other segments as required
