Brief Description
The
Environmental Systems Ownerensures full compliance with environmental regulations and permits, mitigates potential liabilities, and supports safe, efficient plant operations. This role provides technical and regulatory leadership, oversees compliance programs, and partners with internal teams and external agencies to maintain operational excellence.
General James M. Gavin Power Plant is a 2,600-megawatt supercritical coal-fired power station in the village of Cheshire, Ohio, United States.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal environmental regulations, including Title V permit requirements and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) QA/QC programs.
- Reporting & Documentation: Prepare and submit quarterly, semi-annual, and annual air compliance reports; maintain accurate records and proactive communication on regulatory changes.
- Policy & Procedure Development: Create, implement, and review compliance policies, standards, and procedures.
- Audits & Inspections: Conduct periodic plant audits; coordinate inspections and respond to regulator inquiries.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as primary liaison with regulatory agencies; manage permit renewals, modifications, and compliance strategies.
- Budget & Resource Management: Assist in developing budgets and managing expenses related to compliance activities.
- Technical Expertise: Provide guidance on ESP systems, CEMS functionality, and troubleshooting electrical/control systems.
- Safety & Incident Management: Participate in incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions; promote a safe work environment.
- Contractor Oversight: Manage vendors and contractors supporting compliance programs.
- Other Duties: Support cross-functional teams and contribute to reliability and performance improvements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2+ years of regulatory compliance experience, preferably in the power industry.- Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems in industrial settings.
- Expertise in ESP theory and operation, CEMS systems, and plant control systems (DCS, PLCs, HMI).
- Ability to interpret schematics, P&IDs, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data analysis tools.
- Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently, manage changing priorities, and respond to emergencies.
- Ability to obtain TWIC and travel up to 10%.
- Exposure to varied outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions, high noise levels, hazardous areas, and diverse work surfaces.
- Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective gear.
- Working near high-voltage equipment and operating heavy machinery, with proper training and safety protocols.
- Entry into confined spaces and potentially hazardous environments, often accompanied by exposure to loud machinery and equipment.
- Physical activities including walking, standing for extended periods, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders/stairs, operating large valves, and performing tasks requiring up to 50 lbs. of pulling, turning, lifting, or carrying.
- Ability to perform work at 500+ feet.- Participation in a post-offer physical examination and drug screening, as well as ongoing random drug testing.
- Compliance with strict smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Summary
Applicants must possess a
valid driver's licenseand maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.

The salary range for this position is commensurate with experience, qualifications, and location. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to skills, experience, and relevant qualifications.
