Wood currently has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Structural Engineer . Reporting to the Civil / Structural Department Manager this position can be seated in our St. John's, Newfoundland & Labrador office.
As a Structural Engineer, you will collaborate with a team of engineers/technicians to provide client-focused solutions. This role has a primary requirement for relevant experience in structures design. - Ability to undertake complex structural engineering projects
- Prepare conceptual and detailed design calculations
- Coordinate preparation of drawings with designers and check drawings
- Prepare engineering reports, specifications, design criteria and construction scope of work documents
- Carry out feasibility studies and prepare reports
- Work in brownfield setting for majority of projects
- Carry out site visits and inspections to remote sites as needed for projects
- Respond to RFIs from contractors and resolve field problems
- Preparation of quantity estimates for structural items
- Coordinate with vendors, contractors and clients as needed
- Work in a multi-disciplinary environment and co-operate with other team members
- Developing detailed proposals including scope of work, deliverables and man-hour estimates for structural scopes
- Demonstrate superior structural engineering capabilities to maintain our high-quality brand
- Work in a safe manner, complying with Wood Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) policies, manuals and procedures. At all times considering the health, safety and welfare of fellow workers, visitors, clients, community and the environment
- Manage project budgets, schedules and work of other engineers and designers

- University bachelor’s degree in civil engineering
- Minimum 15 to 20 years of experience required in industrial environment
- Professional Engineer License with PEGNL in Province of Newfoundland & Labrador
- Ability to work efficiently and demonstrate effective organization skills to handle multiple projects and tasks
- Foundation design experience for various types of foundations (spread, combined, mat, deep foundations)
- Experience in design of industrial buildings inclusive of building structure, lateral load resisting system, seismic analysis and associated building foundations
- Experience in steel and concrete design for various miscellaneous industrial structures such as pipe racks, equipment platforms, pump foundations, retaining walls, monorails, etc.
- Ability to understand client requirements and develop constructible and cost economical engineering solutions acceptable to clients
